Ummm... Punk is as wide as it is narrow...
But if yer after a 'authenticity' and want more singing than screaming...

1. The Ascendents
2. Green Day
3. Nirvana
4. Descendents
5. Ramones
6. Bad Religion
7. Rancid

There aren't 10 good punk bands... I can think of 7...

It almost seems as if everyone was really struggling to get the last few bands on their list of actual 'good bands'...

As for being the top "real" punk band.. Promoting the idea of freedom of expression (including freedom of music), what punk seems to have long forgotten. "Sell-outs" .. The meaning is real.. Copy-protection my ass.. The Ascendents are free. Free to the world, and still free to change it. Thats why The Ascendents are #1 on my list. The only ones that can actually do it. Be that one band. The Ascendents' future looks more promising than anything else out there.
