now its just seems to be annoying punk.. or pop punk which i really like.. i like what punk has come to.. cause well i don't really like many punk, punk bands.. aside from Black Flag.. other then that i don't like any 80's or 90's punk bands... just pop punk..

punk hasn't changed a whole lot, only now we have mainstream bands a la good charlette or green day, convincing rotc kids that they're rebels.
if anything else, it's just that punk is being confused with bands like linkin park and evenescence (yeah, i've heard people call those bands punk). |
^ linkin park is like soft rap metal

Its been going a little downhill since the late 80s, but there are still some good "true" punk bands around, they are just harder to find.
|
Sadly there aren't too many easily findable new great punk bands. Unlike Hardcore :(

Well, I lived through the original wave, and although it wasn't to my liking, it seems to me that it started out with a base core of fans, back in the mid to late 70s.
The difference between punk and rock of that time was, rock had the defiance thing going, they were pretty much saying to authority, "Here's us, we don't care what you think is wrong with us", while punk was saying, "Here's what's wrong with you" Punk had much more of a social conscience. As with anything that gains in popularity, more bands picked up on the sound and the look, and the snarling attitude. Only trouble was, they didn't bother to bring along the true essence of what punk rock is all about: Rebellion. Oh, sure, they looked like rebels. Sounded like rebels, etc, etc. But it was done tongue in cheek, instead of fist in mouth, like real punk. Anyway, I was never a big fan of punk, so I can't really give a bunch of examples. This is just the opinion from someone on the outside looking in. |
