When it comes to the punk genre, I think Bad Religion (their newer stuff, anyway) is a little lighter in sound than say, The Misfits or DK, but that doesn't mean they're not raw and lively. I heard they put on a great live show. Not only that, but they've some really powerful lyrics.

i had no idea that dude taught with a phd, insane

I enjoy them. Like 333 I'm not a huge fan of punk but every now and then I'll throw them on. They were one of the few acts I saw at Warped Tour '07 that I enjoyed.

Yeah, I guess it's because I haven't been exposed to A LOT of it. What I've heard, I love. That includes: Bad Religion, Misfits, DK, and NoFX, but also, it can come down to what you consider punk.

Lucky you. I heard they were kickass live. Where'd you see them at? I've never seen them, but I caught NoFX in 2006. Some of the best energy I've felt at a show besides Flogging Molly.

They are my favorite punk band of all time, and one of my three favorite bands of all time. Graffin's lyrics cannot be touched in the realm of singalong punk with some pop sensibilities. You would typically have to go to the harder, more radical punk and hardcore bands to find some similar sentiments expressed, although they would not likely do so in such an articulate fashion.

"No Control" and "Suffer" are mandatory listening, in my book. Even their first major label record, "Stranger Than Fiction" was fantastic. They are still putting out some good stuff after all these years, too. While I may not like all of the songs start to finish on their last couple records, at least half of the album is still consistently excellent. "Process of Belief" would be my pick of the best more contemporary Bad Religion album.

Yeah, I dig on Bad Religion quite a bit.

Top 5 Bad Religion Songs

1. Generator
2. I Want to Conquer the World
3. Fuck Armageddon... This is Hell.
4. All There Is
5. Modern Man

I got to see them back in '04 or '05. The openers were pretty shitty. (From First to Last and Rise Against) But the energy of the crowd when Bad Religion played was phenomenally intense.

I'm not a fan of what I've heard form their latest album. The Empire Strikes First was pretty damn good, though.

They're great because while having a classic punk influenced sound, they're also heavily influenced by bands like the Beatles and Beach Boys - and incorporate a ****load of melody and vocal harmonies into their music.

Sure, alot of their songs sound the same, but it's one AWESOME song.
