The Fall
Anyone heard of these guys? Obviously, a lot of you have, since I've seen them mentioned before. In my opinion, one of the greatest post-punk bands of all time, a lot like Wire except more rockin'.
They're led by Mark E. Smith, who I think has been the only constant band member since they started in '77 (they're still at it.) They released Fall Heads Roll last year, which I haven't heard but I've heard good things about it. Personally, I'm a big fan of their earlier stuff, songs like Hip Priest or Rowche Rumble really do it for me. A lot of 80/90's bands were big fans of The Fall, including Pavement and Sonic Youth (who did a bunch of crappy covers at one point.) I don't really know what else to say, they've released an inordinate amount of studio albums, and if you want to hear some recent live stuff, just go here. |

my friends brother popped a cd of theirs in once when i was at his house. not sure which cd it was though. i couldnt stand it the first time i heard it, but ive checked some of their stuff out since then and ive actually grown to like some of it. touch sensitive is the only song by them i have on my mp3 player...so i guess id have to say thats my favorite song by them. their style had to grow on me though...because when i heard them for the first time i hated their music.
any other recommendations as to songs i should download?

Rowche Rumble
Repetition Industrial Estate Totally Wired Hip Priest C.R.E.E.P. The Classical Touch Sensitive is more later-era Fall, so it's not quite as... jagged... as these songs. Personally, I prefer the earlier songs since they've got more of a punk feel. |

They're a cool band, and I have a lot of respect for the kind of music they make, but I've never been able to tap into it as much as I'd like to. The basis of their music appeals to me, it's just never quite worked, not sure why. Still pretty good, though.

it may be you, cardboard adolescent, that i asked this before, but do the talking heads fit in with the "post punk" genre? the fall seem to have somewhat of a similar style about them.
