That's one of my favorites from Extricate - I've always loved the slower and moodier Fall tracks that build tension and offer release. The albums that best exemplify this style of theirs I think are Perverted By Language and Bend Sinister, which happen to be my two favorite albums by them.

There's the more common and milder variation of this approach where the songs just kinda chug along at a hypnotic pace, while shifting only slightly in tempo and pace. Sort of like this underrated track from The Frenz Experiment.

I remember back in college being slightly drunk, smoking cigarettes out on campus (a rather common occurrence) as I walked from one place to the other in the dark of the night, dimly lit by the lampposts, and tracks like this were the perfect soundtrack. The disciplined and steady military march of the drums on this track always makes me think of Manson's Beautiful People:

Totally does. But the expanded CD version is the proper full album to me. The original LP tracklist is like ordering a rack of ribs at a restaurant and getting so little meat from it when it arrives on your table, you think the pig that it came from was anorexic or something. In the original, they cocktease you with a 40 second excerpt of Guest Informant instead of giving you the full track.

For sure. They're great. Not peak Fall by any means but good stuff.

I think I've mentioned this here before, but it's the same thing with Bend Sinister for me (although it isn't missing as many tracks). The CD version is the canon version to me.

I can't imagine the album without Living Too Late and I especially can't imagine it ending on Shoulder Pads #2 instead of Auto Tech Pilot.

With Living Too Late and with the album ending on Auto Tech Pilot, it becomes my favorite Fall album (followed closely by PBL). But without those two tracks, I think it's easily out of my top 5. Auto Tech Pilot is at least a top 20 Fall track to me. It's sneaky good.

When I listened to Injury Reserve's latest album last year, I was floored to hear them sample Auto Tech Pilot - at first I had to double check because I thought my Spotify ****ed up and switched from the Injury Reserve album to The Fall. Not totally original for an experimental rap group to sample The Fall, I believe Death Grips sampled Paranoia Man on one of their tracks, but still really cool to hear nonetheless.

yeah, listened to Frenz Experiment for the first time in a while today - the expanded version is a top 15 Fall album - the original album is probably a bottom 15 Fall album.

Drjohnrock, what if I told you there's a GREAT film about a mental Mancunian wordsmith where it's two hours of the guy spitting out paranoid conspiracy theories, doomsday prophesies and great one-liners? IMO every Fall fan should watch this film several dozen times.

Nah, doesn't sound like my thing. Like many, if not all Fall fans. I'm grounded in reality, even is MES wasn't at times.

A 36 second clip, with subtitles. Give it a try! You won't be able to resist it!
