that's the petty part where I "hate" it it's super popular atm and I just want to talk about other music I find more interesting
1: A lot of metal fans of the worst sort (trad metal/NWOBHM) are gonna fall through your Deftones net.
2: The petty part is the whole thing.

I like that one Deftones song, Knife Party. Their newest album also had some qualities, but... eh. Boring band.

Just like Phil Collins, they have a couple allright songs, and that's it.

I usually toss your weak arguments after rolling my eyes at them. What exactly did you say that contradicts that? Hopefully not the metal being popular bit, because we both know I was talking about metal not being stylistically poppy enough for you.

Puhleeeeez like punk doesn't have the most contrived bands in history. As far as more dissonant, hell no since both genres offer up heaping amounts of consonant and dissonant music. I'll chalk that up to a Dunning-Kruger.

Metal is so many things and spans the entire divide between accessible, poppy metarial and difficult, challenging music. There are so many vocal styles, not just growling, barking and other theatrical affectations.
