No-Wave was a scene where they took punk ethics but disregarded melody. They replaced melody with extreme noise, guitar distortion and psychotic singing.

Thanks alot for this. Can now fill the gaps in my punk collection

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this, but you're missing some of the 80's underground like early Husker Du/early The Replacements, though I suppose they evolved into alternative rock. Also no mention of post-hardcore like Fugazi or Nation of Ulysses who continued punk's DIY ethics into the 90's.

Apologies if I'm making an ass of myself, lol. I know I haven't built up my postcount yet :P But that's because I'm busy trying to frantically absorb as much info as possible. MB is a goldmine for delightful aural orgasms

i know its not punk hitsory but if you are interested you should check out some of the colorado local bands, not many people hear about band from here but there are tons of great ones!
