Shabang, you should write a book boo boo that was well said.
In agreeance, the messages were similar. That was one of the whole themes of rock, rebellion, and when punk first came about it was still running strong in the blood so to speak. And so as said above, Punk artists hated the way prog artists were dillying about with sounds, stretching the all important themes of many of the songs. Thats why punk is short and sweet. Punk has the scales 70:30 in favour of the message. Prog has the scales 70:30 in favour of the music. At least thats how I see it.
