In agreeance, the messages were similar. That was one of the whole themes of rock, rebellion, and when punk first came about it was still running strong in the blood so to speak. And so as said above, Punk artists hated the way prog artists were dillying about with sounds, stretching the all important themes of many of the songs. Thats why punk is short and sweet.

True, but i still dont understand why people hate prog for being long, classical music and opera is long, isnt it?...I love prog, and i think people take the rock in prog rock too seriously, prog just has some rock elements, but it borrows much more from other genres, mainly jazz and classical music, and theres nothing wrong with that.
I also like how some bands nowedays mix elements of punk AND prog.
