both amazing punk bands, and both contributed so much to the punk scene in their own ways. and they both had bassists that were heroine addicts... something about early punk and heroine, i dont know. im definately gonna have to go with the sex pistols cause the ramones can sound a little pop-ish sometimes. it was a lot of show, but the sex pistols had such a great anarcho/anti-authoritarian attitude that just mad them great to listen to because you could feel the anger come through rotten's voice

Sex Pistols all the way. I would barely even call Ramones punk.

It doesn't matter what genre they are. It's about who's better.

Well the Ramones have more songs that I like but then they have a much larger body of work than the Sex Pistols. And if you do it by percentage, I probably like a greater percentage of the Pistols output than the Ramones.

Final answer: it's hard to say. I guess I like them both about equally.

I don't really care for either but I'd probably choose the Sex Pistols over The Ramones just because they get really boring to me.

Sex Pistols definitely. The New York "punk scene" wasn't even really punk. It was art rock. Bands like the Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, The Ramones...They didn't have any feuled anger in them. No class rage. The British scene on the the other hand, the guys who were in the bands there were speaking out against a country that they felt had abandoned their kind of working class people. In my opinion British punk is true punk, and therefore the Pistols are WAY better. Ramones are excellent, but just now as good...

I never really liked the Sex Pistols. I realize they were important but that doesn't mean I have to listen to them.

I do like the Ramones for the most part though.

Definitely Pistols
They were the most non-conforming group of guys and that's what punk is truely about....hating and choosing not to give in to society's bullsh**.
'Nuff said lol
