In my opinion the Sex Pistols were one of the most overrated bands of all time in respect to their musical ability however what they did for their genre is a different story. I can't think of any band in history thats put out only one album of original music and had such a profound influence on generations to come. The truth of the matter is that a man named Malcom McClaren put the Pistols together after visiting the states and seeing bands like the Ramones and the Stooges perform. For the Sex Pistols to have the title of the "first punk band" makes me laugh out loud. - Ramones all the way.

The Ramones were juvenile, and dressed like *** metal daddies. The Sex Pistols were decadent and they knew it, whereas the Ramones were just a bunch of boring twats with boring songs. And plus the Ramones just died of cancer. The Sex Pistols hated each other, got beaten by mobs, started fires and one of them killed his girlfriend and died of a drug overdose. If that isn't punk then I don't know what is.
