You're still physically training your body articulation while playing guitar and opening mental pathways. Energy is put into both whether or not it's as physically demanding as the other.
I'm not talking about an interest in music generally (i.e. listening). I'm talking about the instrument aspect (guitar hero vs. a real guitar). Not quite the same thing. |

Ya, like, I'm a huge baseball fan but no one is complaining about me playing fantasy baseball instead of going out and coaching my own little league team...

People who learn instruments aren't necessarily interesting in the instrument itself, they are just people who are listeners and they want to know HOW the sounds they're hearing are happening.. so they begin to learn. Some people might be curious in how the sounds they're hearing are happening, but not so curious they're willing to learn so GH offers a nice easy alternative. |

Maybe it depends on the person, I believe that for most it will be a nice easy alternative pressing a few buttons on a piece of plastic. For others it might be a gateway into playing a real instrument..
I've always felt like GH prevents people from learning, mainly 'cause of people I know. They like and listen to music etc. but they can't play a real instrument but they're excellent on Guitar Hero.. |

I suppose it does depend on the person but I still think generally for someone learning guitar, guitar hero isn't really a bad thing. I guess I just see the two too differently to make that much of an impact.
It seems to be that way. I play guitar but I'm pretty bad at Guitar Hero. On the thread topic, I think I'm going to rock some Dookie. It's been years. |

Guitarists tend to be bad at GH, I've not played GH since I learnt the guitar.. It'd be interesting to try after about 3 years of not touching it.
Rock some Dookie? As in listen to it? Play some of the songs off Dookie on guitar? |

A Green Day: Rock Band? Talk about the easiest game ever, amirite?
C'mon, can't they find a band that would make for more challenging gameplay? Now Mahavishnu Orchestra: Rock Band, that would be some hardcore sh*t. Last edited by boo boo; 04-21-2010 at 01:37 AM. |
