Have you ever played Guitar Hero? I kind of agree with you, but either I get the ****tiest guitar/lessons ever for the same price or I have to teach it to myself, which would be as boring as hell. Plus, the friend factor: me and my friends can all play Guitar Hero together without knowing how to play a single instrument...

I think a racing video game and actually going out racing is different from learning an instrument. For one going out racing uses a lot more energy than sitting in your room all day playing a guitar... All you need is £80 for a cheap guitar and to have a bit of interest and away you go. I think GH stops people from learning songs on a real instrument, they're quite content with pretending.

The irony is for GH it's £40 and if you get the drums etc. it can go upto £180 or something like that, you could get quite a nice beginner guitar for that. It bugs me |

Well, I tried to pick up the bass last year and my hands sweat too much to pluck the strings haha.
But I got my GH bundle for $100, which included the drums and all that jazz. I have no musical background, so it would be way too much effort to try and teach it to myself. With everything else going on I just don't have time for it, and playing GH with my friends is a fun way to get involved with some of our favorite music...

I always felt like the birth of GH is stopping people forming bands. Why bother going through the effort of learning instruments when you can invite a few of your mates around, have a few beers and play Guitar Hero?
I do see the appeal come to think of it, I just think it's a bad thing. $100, you could probably get a nice Les Paul for about $120 |

If Guitar Hero is keeping anyone from forming a band then I'm glad the band didn't get formed haha...

To me they're completely different. If you genuinely have an interest in music, you're not going to settle for playing along to songs on your TV. Also you can't deny that guitar hero drums can't instill some basic rhythm and familiarization of physical technique (I'm at loss for a better term here). |

Let's say Fifa the football game, I play that but I don't play real football anymore. That isn't bad because I'm never gonna become a footballer, it's just a video game that passes the time. A lot of people do both, play the video game and play in real life. Violent & Funky has a genuine interest in music but doesn't play an instrument, yet he plays GH... I think the same applies to a lot of people. |
