The Official The Doors/Jim Morrison Thread

i recently got the doors best of album, and electric ladyland- jimi hendrix experience and theyre really really great. comments?

alk3jam 11-19-2004 08:44 AM

i love the doors. they are amazing.

TheBig3 11-19-2004 01:58 PM

Hendrix can't be defended anymore than he already is, but the doors are severly underated, they seem to be the old White Stripes, for some reason, some people loved them, and some really just hated them.

Oi_To_The_World 11-19-2004 06:17 PM

people hated the doors? were they ill?

TheBig3 11-20-2004 08:52 PM

People still hate the doors. My piano teacher thinks their aweful. Anyone who's ever read spin magazine know that staff there are on a personal jihad to discredit them.

Oi_To_The_World 11-20-2004 09:37 PM

you should tell your piano teacher to put away baa baa black sheep and teach you some doors.

dima 11-21-2004 06:38 AM

Have you read what the people who knew him say about him? He was a horrible individual only out for himself who did some pretty **** things.

Don`t confuse talent with niceness.

Oi_To_The_World 12-22-2004 03:55 PM

^ i dont. but i honestly dont give a flying f*ck about the musicians personal lives, the music is what matters.

So you say , yet you keep on replying. You have no opinion on something i`m saying yet you reply anyway to flame me. i`m so sorry you think my views are 'elitist bullsh*t' , I think as someone who has EVERY album The Doors ever recorded & books on the band all of which are freely available you could quite easily have access to this 'elitist' information that I seem to have & make a proper judgement of your own.

But of course you don`t care do you.

Oi_To_The_World 12-22-2004 07:44 PM

does it really matter if an artist was a horrible individual, if he did drugs, if he beat on his wife, if he killed someone. the music is the bottom line. but youre right, it doesnt matter either way. youre entitled to hate or like whoever you want.

wat did he do?

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-28-2004 10:48 AM

It wasn`t so much what he did it was more the way he did things. He was arrogant , self serving & thought he was better than everybody else. He didn`t have any time for anyone else. He had no friends , he treated women like dirt & he wasn`t even close to the band he was in. Basically he used people to get what he wanted. And when the Doors took off & he started to get fame , drink , drugs & women in abundance he got even worse & thats why he`s lying six feet under in Paris right now.

sleepy jack 12-29-2004 04:07 PM

Okay everyone burn your doors CD the Mighty musical god Urban Hatemonger has spoken since someone did stupid things in a band we have to all hate him and his music. Were not allowed to say anything in defence cause he'll just falme you and and say "im just debating" so everyone doors are as of now a band we cant like.

And if you`d bothered to read this thread properly may I point you in the direction of this comment I made...

I was being a pissy d*ck when i wrote that.

Sweet Jane 12-31-2004 01:25 PM

Jim was more than just a twat... sounds like a horrible junkie indeed. I don't see why its glorified so much with him yet everyone is allowed to say bad things about Pete Docherty.

The Doors music ruled though. 'The Cars Hiss by my window' still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

All_Nite_Dinah 01-01-2005 11:46 AM

The doors were awsome. But hatemonger is a little in the right. From what I've read most accounts of Morrison after he became ultra famous make him out to be a womanizing drug abusing drunken jerk. But That dosnt change the fact that he was an incrredible lyricist and singer. But besides Morrison I think Manzarek is way to often overlooked as the backbone of the doors. Morrison put a wonderful face on a wonderful band But Manzarek is one of the best(if not the best) keyboard players I have ever heard. And without his signiture key work in almost all doors songs the band would never have made it as far as they did. After all it was manzarek who helped found the doors. But yea, the Doors were an amaaaazing band. I love House of the rising sun, crystal ship, break on through, people are strange, whiskey bar. and so many others.

That pretty much sums up everything i`ve ever thought about the Doors, Manzarek doesn`t get anywhere near the amount of credit he should for the success of the Doors.

Sweet Jane 01-01-2005 03:41 PM

Doesn't that always happen though? Every frontman and lead singer gets hailed as the man behind the whole thing.

Well look at Coldplay (Although to be fair thats not something i`d want to do)
I don`t think i`ve ever met anyone who knows the names of the other 3 members.

Sweet Jane 01-01-2005 03:50 PM

Hehe, so true, its all to do with looks and positioning. That's why no-one ever focuses on the drummer. John was a damn good drummer too.

dog 01-08-2005 05:17 AM

i saw the doors movie by oliver stone-(legend) and i see where this 'urban hatemonger' is comin from, but i dont agree with him, i still think jim morrison was a legend.

(btw, if ur a fan of the doors, watch oliver stone's movie, its pretty kickass)

Molasses 01-08-2005 05:59 AM

I think it's the bassist that no-one really gives a **** about in bands, the drummer is 2nd ranked. :D When I see the strokes I always focused on the Alburt Hammond Jr and not the frountman, I think it differs with every band.

Highway_Star 01-08-2005 06:28 AM

At the risk of being a tad unpopular - I always find the doors bore the arse off me after about 4 songs...
