thanks a bunch for the further suggestions, i'll check them out today (not heard any of them). i have very broad tastes, but i'm rather picky about what music sticks around - we'll see!

as for british whimsy - went to uni in southampton for a year, then london for 2 years, so i can relate on a certain level
