i have everything from Atom Heart Mother onward. generally, i think it gets better as the years go on. i grew up loving the Wall, but now i find it rather irritating. Meddle is brilliant, along with some of the other early Waters era stuff. but i can't stand to much of Waters at once, his voice gets to me after a while. but at the same time, i can't imagine anyone else singing in his place. just imagine Gilmor singing Possible Pasts - aargh!

but yes, i'm a Gilmour fan. Divison Bell is my favorite album, hands down. Momentary Lapse is ok, it's in my regular rotation, but not many tracks grab me besides On the Turning Away.

Gilmour's On an Island was brilliant! i thank my lucky stars that i got to catch his tour. that really solidified my love for the Gilmour era.

i think i might have a different opinion if i were a bit older (i'm 31), or if i had been exposed to more PF when i was growing up. also i don't care for much classic or progressive rock beyond PF. but i'm glad they did their thing, and in the end, i don't think any other group has more five-star tracks in my foobar than PF does...

I love Barrett era Floyd but many people don't. It's not an exclusive thing but I find that a lot more British PF fans are into this era. There is something about Barretts whimsical nature that is a part of British culture.

I thought 'On An Island' was OK but Gilmour's solo debut album (1978) is his best by far. His follow on 'About Face' however is very bland and it's 80's roots show.

Have you heard either Riverside, eating.seats or Porcupine Tree? I think you may like their sound if you want to expand your net prog wise, without getting into the more obscure/experimental bands.

thanks a bunch for the further suggestions, i'll check them out today (not heard any of them). i have very broad tastes, but i'm rather picky about what music sticks around - we'll see!

as for british whimsy - went to uni in southampton for a year, then london for 2 years, so i can relate on a certain level :)

I find Pink Floyd and Appleseed Cast don't really sound the same but instrumental, and with story telling they are very much alike.

What? No.

Anybody appreciating A Saucerful of Secrets (1968).
It made in the wake of Syd leaving, but I still enjoy this album a ton.
Its still very psychedelic, but with the future progressive sound.

Fantastic album, Saucerful of Secrets. You've got the psychedlia there from Piper, but you start to see some more rock influence coming from Dave Gilmour. That, and Jugband Blues is one of the saddest songs ever written. Madness at its most naked.

Loooove Pulse, it gives me shivers.
And The Wall is a given. =D

I was just listening to this in the car not even 2 minutes ago. Incredible album. They were indeed ahead of their time. I can't really specify on a particular favorite - the whole album is amazing. One of my favorite elements of the album (and most Pink Floyd albums) are the transitions inbetween songs. It flows nicely and fluidly at times and is chaotic at the right moments and I love that.

I'm the other way around for A Saucerful Of Secrets:

Hence why they're a bit more accepted among progheads.

I actually like the title track from AHM, If and Fat Old Sun are nice songs, Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is filler but I do like when the accoustic guitar comes in, Summer 68 is blah.

More is hit and miss, The Nile Song and Green is the Colour are standouts.
