Like Black Holes in the Sky

Hi everyone, just wanted to inform the Pink Floyd fans who may be interested that there's a Syd Barrett tribute CD coming out on Dwell Records called "Like Black Holes in the Sky." It features 13 of the underground indie music scene's best. Here's the track listing:

Kosmos [featuring Away, from Voivod] - Vegetable Man
Kylesa – Interstellar Overdrive
Intronaut – Arnold Layne
Stinking Lizaveta – Matilda Mother [1st recorded vocal performance by Stinking Liz!]
Jarboe – Late Night
Pentagram – Flaming
Giant Squid – Octopus
Yakuza – Lucifer Sam
Jesu [featuring Justin Broadrick from Godflesh] – Chapter 24
Unearthly Trance – Long Gone
Dredg – Astronomy Domine
Circle – Rats
Zodiak – See Emily Play

You will probably never post again, but is it out now?

And half those bands are hardly indie or underground. Dredge is pretty ****in big as well as a few others there.

Syd Barrett comp

It's being released on 9.23.08.

And you're right, some of those bands are not so "underground" anymore. My error.

After I get Saucerful of Secrets, should I just go ahead to Meddle, or are there any in between those that are stand-outs?

Atom Heart Mother and More are okay but they take a great attention span to be able to listen to without turning it off...

I personally think that you should just work through them all but then I am a fanboy :)

Animals is incredible, as is Momentary Lapse.

Brain Damage and Eclipse together make the greatest ending for an album/anything ever in my opinion. The rest of the album is great too, but that's my highlighted area. Eclipse gives me the shivers and I almost cry. I hope that doesn't make me effeminate.

Yeah that's my opinion on Pink Floyd so far. I heard a little Animals but I need moar.

i don't like the Barrett era. in fact, i downright dislike it. it doesn't even sound like music to me (though Astronomy Domine and Set the Controls are nice if i'm in the right mood). Bike or Gnome are amusing maybe once a year, but it's nothing i can put on and enjoy.

i have everything from Atom Heart Mother onward. generally, i think it gets better as the years go on. i grew up loving the Wall, but now i find it rather irritating. Meddle is brilliant, along with some of the other early Waters era stuff. but i can't stand to much of Waters at once, his voice gets to me after a while. but at the same time, i can't imagine anyone else singing in his place. just imagine Gilmor singing Possible Pasts - aargh!

but yes, i'm a Gilmour fan. Divison Bell is my favorite album, hands down. Momentary Lapse is ok, it's in my regular rotation, but not many tracks grab me besides On the Turning Away.

Gilmour's On an Island was brilliant! i thank my lucky stars that i got to catch his tour. that really solidified my love for the Gilmour era.

i think i might have a different opinion if i were a bit older (i'm 31), or if i had been exposed to more PF when i was growing up. also i don't care for much classic or progressive rock beyond PF. but i'm glad they did their thing, and in the end, i don't think any other group has more five-star tracks in my foobar than PF does...

Seconding this.

It's aggravating to pick which Floyd album is my favorite. I'm partial to Dark Side, especially the last four tracks played in succession.

Wish You Were Here is really good too, I think it's about tied with DSotM in about every category in my book.

Animals is a great album, but I don't have as much of an attachment to it as most of the others.
