Here are two (non-obscure) examples - that most progheads will disagree with me on - where, between one lp and the next, the group changed from clear prog to clear rock YET STILL MANAGED TO put out a great lp:

GENTLE GIANT going to the straight rock of "Civilian"


FM going to "City Of Fear"
