5 Reasons Why Hawkwind Are Great

1. Silver Machine pisses over anything Black Sabbath ever did

2. Lemmy

3. At the start of their Space Ritual tour they had 5 members in the band , by the end of it there were around 15 , including poets , naked dancers , a guy playing the 'sonic generator' , a frontman who dressed in world war one flying ace outfit complete with goggles who was declared clinically insane on more than one occasion , and a sci fi author , now you didn`t get that in Led Zeppelin did you.

4. Stacia .... A big breasted naked dancer who did it just for the hell of it.

5. They`re better than every single stoner rock band ever

Merkaba 07-28-2005 03:02 PM

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-06-2005 07:01 PM

I never thought i`d see the day Lemmy would sell crisps with Gary Lineker

I think a part of me just died

_Spinning_ 08-07-2005 03:54 PM

Interesting. Will have a listen and let you know my opinion.

jackhammer 11-08-2008 08:24 PM

The mighty Hawkwind need more love.

Another reason: they are one of only a handful of bands who play music for the love of it.

Seltzer 11-08-2008 08:40 PM

Doremi Fasol Latido still blows my mind every time I listen to it.

jackhammer 11-08-2008 08:45 PM

I'm listening to 'Space Bandits' and I forgotten how good this album was. I still have a number of albums for my fave.

4ZZZ 11-09-2008 01:15 AM

Ahhh Hawkwind. The memories of my youth.

"Space is dark, it is so endless, when you're lost it's so relentless, It is so big, it is so small, why does man try to act so tall, Is this the reason deep in our minds....." he sings to himself.

Terrible Lizard 11-09-2008 04:03 PM

Every time I listen to Hawkwind I'm reminded of why I hate The Verve so much.

What's the connection?

They're both British bands.

Honestly, jackhammer, sometimes you just don't think. ;)

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw. I never knew they were both British ;). I seriously cannot find a good link between them both that's all. Your sarcasm should earn yourself a country mansion and free pork pie over here for sure :D
BTW -it's a compliment.

I have a notoriously dry sense of humor that gets more shrugged shoulders than laughs over here. But I'm glad you approve. :)

Hawkwind = Good Spacerock

The Verve = Bad Spacerock

:usehead:

turboduck17 11-09-2008 08:39 PM

The verve doesnt have naked dancers.

now lets decide who wins.

The Verve Spacerock WTF?

4ZZZ 11-10-2008 05:04 AM

I had forgotten how much I loved Hawkwind. I had not played them for many many a long year thanks to a disappearing vinyl collection. I D/led Epocheclipse 30 Year Anthology and have been having a listen. Well that is it! I am off to grab some of the main discography this weekend. Sonic Attack was the catalyst. How can anyone not like
"If you are making love it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm simultaneously.
Do not waste time blocking your ears.
Do not waste time seeking a "sound proofed" shelter.
Try to get as far away from the sonic source as possible
Do not panic
Do not panic"

And yeah I would go Hawkwind over The Verve. Naked dancing girls will do it for me every time:D.

Assault and Battery on the human anatomy Assault and Battery on the human anatomy :hphones:

ice_ant 11-10-2008 07:41 AM

who are they?can you give me details or samples of their songs?

jackhammer 11-10-2008 08:33 AM

What a great track. Brilliant album too.

5. They`re better than every single stoner rock band ever

3: There 2 Disc Space Ritual Live Album is ****ing incredible. There is not one second that doesn't belong.

5: Thats a bit of a stretch, there definitely up there though. And space rock is different than stoner rock to begin with. Space rock includes more elements of ambient music, and generally slower tempo's.

My only question is which albums to check out next. I have Space Ritual 1 and 2, Self Titled, Doremi Fasol Latido, and In Search Of Space. There discography is so big I dont know what to go to next. ( Preferably a studio album)

Astounding Music, Amazing Sounds
Levitation
Sonic Attack

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-14-2009 11:03 AM

I'll second Jackhammer's nomination of Astounding Music, Amazing Sounds.

And i'll add one of my own to Hall Of The Mountain Grill

Dr_Rez 04-14-2009 12:07 PM

I shall check those out tonight. I am amazed I had not heard this band before this week. I love them.

I'm fairly new to them myself but Hall of the Mountain Grill is a pretty fantastic album.

boo boo 04-14-2009 01:05 PM

I'd like to nominate Warrior on the Edge of Time, that one always gets overlooked.

Hawkwind are a hard band to pigeonhole, some call them prog, some call them rock n roll (how about prog n roll?) but that really depends on the album, they evolved a bit throughout the years. They started out as just a hard rock band more than anything, but starting with Mountain Grill they became the defining space rock band. I think one of the reasons Lemmy left was that he didn't like the prog direction they were taking.

Well that and he was a speed junkie that became such a liability for the band that they decided to just dump him in the state of Michigan somewhere.

jackhammer 04-14-2009 01:15 PM

I like all Hawkwind albums. I can find good in some of their dodgier albums Space Bandits etc. Warrior is a great album but so is Quark. Just get them all Rezz!

You know what "motorhead" is slang for right?

Exactly that :D and he got his name for continously saying lend me (lemmy) a fiver.

Mirrorball95 04-14-2009 02:21 PM

Alrite, I've just downloaded about 4 of their albums, 'In Search Of Space' (1971), 'Doremi Fasol Latido' (1972), 'Hail Of The Mountain Grill' (1974), 'Warrior On The Edge Of Time' (1975).
Plus Lemmy is a legend, ever heard him doing a cover of Cinnamon Girl; I have this best of album which came with a bonus disc of called 'The Muggers Tapes' (This was the band Lemmy used to be in early on) and they do a cover of the aforementioned Neil Young song which is surprisingly good and weird at the same time.

F*ck, I keep forgetting that In Search of Space is NOT their first album.

I have done that in the past, getting an artists entire discography at once. It never seems to work because when there is SO much (Buckethead for example) I tend to overlook a lot. If I listen to them one at a time I appreciate them much more.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-14-2009 04:48 PM

I found a torrent of all their albums from 1970-1985 including compilations, about 30 in total.

Was so badly seeded it took me 4 months to download it.

Dr_Rez 04-14-2009 04:50 PM

How do you pronounce there name? My guess is exactly how it looks Hawk Wind, but just want to be sure.
