Hey PS, sorry but I think I should be removed from the club. I haven't participated a lick and I don't wanna be suggesting albums if I'm not even gonna be listening to others.

Sure thing, I'll remove you from the list.

Why not Third Rail?

'Cause this is their only album I haven't heard yet.

Here's my latest review...

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?

80's garage/psych rock.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?

No.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?

No preference either way.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?

It grew on me a little with repeated listens. A slow burner.

What was your favourite track?

The second track 'Prisoners' it had a sort of a Doors/60's Pink Floyd combination to it which I liked quite a bit.

What was your least favourite track?

The first track 'You Are My Friend' not bad but I thought it sounded a bit bland and commercial.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?

Not a lot of variety but just enough within the songs to keep it interesting.

How would you describe the overall mood?

Rather melancholy.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?

Possibly.

How well do you know this band/artist?

Have heard several of their songs but never listened to an entire album by them.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?

N/A

How would you improve this album?

Can't think of anything at the moment.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?

If they have an interest in 80's psych rock

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?

I may at some point.

What did you think of the vocals?

Not bad but probably the weakest point within the album.

What did you think of the instrumentation?

Good but nothing spectacular.

What did you think of the production?

Same as above.

Any other thoughts to share?

Hadn't heard this band since the mid 80's and had forgotten about them. Listening to this album, I can see why they didn't make much of an impression on me at the time. They're OK but nothing about them really stood out in my mind.

Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!

7/10

What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?

'60s psych with '80s production.

Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?

Not really.

Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?

The first two tracks were my favourites.

Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?

About the same.

What was your favourite track?

"Prisoners"--kinda sounded like The Doors' take on "Norwegian Wood".

What was your least favourite track?

None were bad, but I found "Blue" the least interesting.

What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?

Not much, but the album was short enough that it didn't matter.

How would you describe the overall mood?

I felt roughly the same emotions as I feel while listening to The Byrds. Interpret that as you wish.

Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?

Yes.

How well do you know this band/artist?

I've heard their whole discography.

If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?

It's not their best, but it's not their worst.

How would you improve this album?

Add a couple tracks.

Would you recommend this album to a friend?

Definitely.

Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?

Already have.

What did you think of the vocals?

They're probably the album's greatest strength.

What did you think of the instrumentation?

They could have branched out a bit more and incorporated some unconventional instruments.

What did you think of the production?

Smooth.

Any other thoughts to share?

Rain Parade is probably my favourite Paisley Underground band. This album isn't their best (that would be Third Rail), but it's still better than a lot of what was coming out in the '80s.

Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!

7/10, would be 8/10 if it was ten minutes longer.

Oriphiel 03-21-2015 06:07 AM

I just came in to say... Hooray for Rain Parade! And all the other Paisley bands, for that matter.
