Err, we like heaps of the same bands you retard.
Sublime, Weezer, Tripod, Beck, Cake, Cypress Hill, Elliott Smith.... I can't be f*cked continuing(spelling?).

And Mars Volta actually have pretty good songs if you can look past the wankiness and the singer. So much wankiness.

sexy_drug 08-23-2005 04:45 AM

Haha Yeah you might like all those but you hate Rush and pink floyd, so there for (i have no idea how it works but eh) your a nazi - hooker

On the subject of Prog Rock.
Pink Floyd have been mentioned a lot in this thread. Has anyone heard the album called Ummagumma by them?
If so has anyone managed to listen to it all in one go without getting freaked out and putting something else on?
(I've not managed it............yet).

ooooh! I have! Both discs! I loves it!

Yes it's quite a mindblowing album, and surprisingly, very underrated, or better yet, unsung.

Zygomycota 08-25-2005 08:23 PM

Indeed it 'tis.

Does a concept album mean that the band is prog? What if it's divided into suites?
What if the songs are 9 min. +? I want to know what kind of music I make.

PhishFood 08-26-2005 11:29 PM

just becasue you have long songs and a concept album doesn't mean you are prog nessacarily.... it's not really that progressive to base your self on everyother prog band

Death666 08-27-2005 01:54 AM

I love progressive rock, jethro tull in my opinion has the best songs ever. I have a band and we play progressive metal.

no not really, the first concept album was believed to be sgt peppers, after peppers the concept album has been a long celebrated tradition in prog, but many non prog artists have made concept albums too...punk bands like the minutemen and husker du made concept albums, and punk rock was pretty much founded on its hatred for prog and everything prog stood for in the 1970s...green day made american idiot, which was a concept album...but no way are they prog, and theres nothing else about the band that is similar to prog.

no way! Cedric has a great voice. I know its all subjective, but his voice is incredible in my opinion. But yea, omar-rodriquez is insane on the guitar. You should check out his solo album.

John frusciante is considered progressive rock too right?

in the mars volta yes...not in RHCP...though some of their music is progressive...they really have no prog influences, except maybe david gilmour and robert fripp, they seem to have some influence on frusciantes guitar playing.

cool, porcupine tree has to be my favorite prog band. Dream Theater is great. Mahavishnu Orchestra anyone?? And the mars volta are great, truely one of the few new good bands out right now.

boris jawaka 09-18-2005 04:52 PM

i love prog - i was just watching pink floyd live at pompeii which is a great video of the floyd around the height of their psychedelic period

soundgardenrox 09-18-2005 07:10 PM
