Modern Krautrock?
Is there such a thing? A band that is carrying on the sound of Krautrock?
Tortoise comes to mind, but they are more post-rock. Is krautrock a dead genre? |

Technically Krautrock only refers to the genre from the 60s and 70s. BUT some bands that have a definite Kraut influence: Bondage Fruit is a Japanese band classified as Zeuhl. There last cd was released in 05, not sure what their current status is. Cloudland Canyon has about 5 cds. Last one in 2010. The Alps. Be careful cause there is another band called The Alps. The right band has only 3 albums last one 2011 titled "Easy Action". Circle is a band from Finland. They've been releasing discs since 94 and are still putting out stuff as of this year. |
Hey check out Julie's Haircut from Italy: julieshaircut.bandcamp.com . They're regular collaborators of Damo Suzuki's as well. Not all they do is actually "krautrock", but some elements are close.... also look for the song "The Devil in Kate Moss" on Youtube, this one features a quite typical "motorik" rhythm. Anyway, the albums "After Dark, My Sweet" and "Our Secret Ceremony" are my advice.

Definite Kraut influence although the band is sadly no more. This track is killer:

I think that Goat's "World Music" (2012) fits to this thread.. Such a unique release!!
Favourite tracks : Let It Bleed & Det Som Aldrig Förändras / Diarabi |
Fire! come to mind as a modern example, although I'm not sure everyone would agree with that categorization.

Public Service Broadcasting consists of J. Willgoose Esq. and Wrigglesworth, who are each about as London as you can get. Still, their music is quite often tagged and filed as krautrock.
I can certainly see where critics get the kosmische tag from. There's a bit of Hallogallo going on in many of their tracks. |
