I can see how it would be polarizing. Regardless, my vote easily goes to Yes. Yes Album and Close to the Edge are two of my favorite albums. Fragile and Relayer are excellent for a majority of the time but are either too inconsistent or have major weak points. Topographic Oceans is a chore and I don't care for 90125 or anything I've heard from the group thereafter. Red is my favorite KC, and In The Court... is also pretty good but I always skip "Moonchild". Discipline and Lark's Tongue... are okay. That being said, I haven't listened to the entirety of either group's catalog, so I'm judging them based on the merits of the albums I have heard. |

In this thread, I would side with Crimson. I'm not too much a Yes listener, but they have moments, and I will say that the instrumental blocks of Tales From Topographic Oceans have some mighty fine playing. Some dig Jon Anderson's singing, I will respect that, but for me it's the speed bump from enjoying their music at full level, but I only don't like it in my more critical moods. 90125 did have at least an iconic Early 80's single, "Owner of a Lonely Heart," with a great video that I think was Directed by Peter Christopherson. |
