Although I can appreciate the match-up, I've been a fan of both for years, and they each have their own qualities. Fripp/Belew is like pairing Einstien with Hawking from a guitarist standpoint, whereas Howe has his technically brilliant ideas, and Rabin was decent and capable. It's like trying to decide which of my nuts I like better, left or right.

Howe has a mastery of technical brilliance, but doesn't take chances and stays within the realms of his abilities while Fripp tries to smash through those boundaries to try and discover new possibilities. Just my opinion. I can appreciate both with the same reverence though.
