Hey guys, I don't really have internet where I'm at and won't have it much before I get back home, so I haven't been around to take care of the PFAC club much. I think therefore that we should do like we did with Henry Cow's Leg End and extend the homework time on Gilgamesh for this week as well and I'll create a discussion thread for it next week.

Sorry things are going a bit slow! But hopefully, I'm not the only one busy with other things. :)

Because I don't have time for polling and noone seems interested in suggesting stuff, I'll just say the first suggestion becomes next week's homework, so grab the opportunity!

This week's homework is famed Canterbury album "Rock Bottom" by Robert Wyatt!

Robert Wyatt should be a name recognized by anyone with a foot inside the Canterbury door. He's one of the most prominent figures from the Canterbury Scene and is, alongside the likes of Arthur Brown, one of few famous singers with a lisp. After being a member of the Wilde Flowers, he started his recording career as the drummer in Soft Machine but went on to form Matching Mole after a couple of albums. In 1973, he had an accident at a party where he fell out of a window and lost the use of his legs. Rock Bottom, which is his second solo effort, was written part before and part just prior to the accident. It was released in 1974 and is hailed by many as the Robert Wyatt album.

You guys are of course free to suggest whatever you want, but I suggest that we get some real classic albums for next week's homework. I'm guessing there are some here participating because they'd like to get into jazz or prog and so far, they might not be having such an easy time. So! If we cater to those as well as the old-timers, then I think it's time the newcomers to the genres get a classic album for their homework assignment. :)

I consider the most classic prog album to be Yes' Close to the Edge from 1972. Are there any regular or would-be participants who have not given that one a decent two-three listen-throughs yet?

I'm kinda busy with uni atm, but I'll still be able to write a bit about Rock Bottom (since I've not only heard it before but it's a top 10 album for me). I'll try and listen to the Gilgamesh S/T sometime as well.

i have heard it many times, but i certainly wouldn't mind hearing it again.
