Hmm. Would have assumed "Atom heart mother", dunno why...
Have you checked my review of "Animals" in my journal?

Atom Heart Mother is an underappreciated album, but to me it was their transition in to picking up that Floyd vibe they're well known for. Obscured by Clouds is another underappreciated album. Not many people realize that it was a movie score.

I haven't seen the review, you got a page number? That's a long journal!

The Wall, followed closely by Animals, DSOTM, and Piper. I think Wish You Were Here is a bit overrated (although still as close to a perfect album as there is out there, like the other four). That said, I think I am starting to lean towards Animals over the Wall more and more every day.

I think that Saucerful of Secrets is their most underrated album. First half is gold, second half is very good.

I'd like to suggest looking up 'Celtic Pink Floyd', pretty cool cover album. Vaguely related and I think you of this thread could dig on it.

I played all their albums to death when I first got into them years ago. These days Wish You Were Here is probably the only one of their albums I ever listen to start to finish. Such a great album.

^ Yes, me too, though I skipped a few albums along the way. Wish You Were Hear has some good material, but the title track doesn't measure up to this track from three years earlier, imo:-

^ I agree. Atom Heart Mother is the album I voted for in the poll here. To me it strikes just the right balance between the slightly hit-and-miss experimentation of their earlier albums and the suffocating perfectionist polish of their later stuff.

These days the prospect of listening to PF doesn't appeal to me at all. I get a lot more pleasure out of Xurtio's very own The Deportation Tapes album, so thanks again for that, Xurtio!

Animals with DSOTM an extremely close second.

Animals came out at the time when I was most heavily into acid which is probably why it wins. The timing was just perfect. Plus I shared Waters' viewpoint of the world back then.

Dogs is my favorite PF song ever and the solo right before "And when you lose control....." is Gilmour's best IMO. It not only totally nails the melody of the backing but also emotes exactly the tone of Waters' lyrics. One of the only solos that I'll still play every now and then. Never been able to quite get the "evil laughing" lick tone though. I think it's some sort of ring modulator.

Even this guy doesn't get it right.
