It's still Echoes all the way for me, that hasn' t changed.... and that's about as non - single as you can go, clocking in at 22 - plus minutes...

Dogs gets my vote. The song is epicly amazing.
This is a very tough question.
I'm going to have to go with Shine on Crazy Diamond. |
I'm considering 'Sheep' to be my absolute favorite now. Rick Wright's most perfect keyboard moments lie intertwined in that madness.
Wish you Were Here
Brain Damage Have a Cigar |
Difficult. For me it's Wish you were here or Dogs or Echoes. And I love also High hopes.
There's a lot to love from the Floyd, but these three are my favorites overall-
Yes, Let there be more light is also one of my favourite :thumb:
Us and Them
Us and Them
It is kinda hard to deny the greatness that is Us and Them...
A tie between "Comfortably Numb" and "Wish You Were Here". Pink Floyd is one of my alltime favourites
Comfortably Numb, and Time. Best Intrumental of theirs is Mudmen.
I'm a big fan of Echoes (Pompeii Version), Cymbaline (Album version), and Time (album version).
My favorite instrumental from them is "Any Colour You Like" from Dark Side.. Excellent guitar ear-sex right there. |
I am really a fan of their earlier stuff and it's hard for me to choose from that period, but I'll go with Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun from A Saucerful of Secrets (1968). Just brilliant.
I like a great deal of the ideas in that song, but man it just doesn't go anywhere for me and gets a bit too repetetive.... that's just me though!
^^^ If you were responding to me...
I experience music not so much through ideas, but more through feelings. What you call going nowhere I call a feeling of the infinite cosmos. Repetitive is the best way to achieve that. |
Instrumental - Insterstellar Overdrive
Vocal - Young Lust |
Almost impossible to answer, but I'll have to narrow it down to my top 5: (in no particular order)
Fearless Echoes Is There Anybody Out There Dogs Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pt. 1 Honorable Mentions: All their other songs. |
Echoes, hands down.
Honourable mentions to Julia Dream and Set the Controls to the Heart of the Sun |
Tough call. Favourite albums Wish You Were Here, Meddle, Animals, Relics. Favourite track maybe See Emily Play. Been many years since I listened to their albums though so this is probably more a sentimental favourite than based on musical merit.
On further reflection I like many of the tracks from Relics. The Nile Song was probably one of the first I got into. Pink Floyd was the first band I obsessed over. Had all their albums on vinyl when I was a kid (well teen I guess 12-15). Kind of lost me with Final Cut though. |
Geez this is hard. I'd say probably either Time or Dogs, perhaps Hey You. There's more I could list but honestly it's so difficult! I also have a fetish for Jugband Blues as well... :thumb:
My favorite is time. But the Animals album...if you listen to that in chronological order...its just unbelievable!
btw. I read somewhere, and loved this quote.
"Being high doesn't make Pink Floyd better, Pink Floyd makes being high better!" :D |
As cliche' as it sounds, my favorite is, and will always be, "Speak To Me (Breathe)" From Dark Side Of The Moon.
Echoes, Time, Comfortably Numb, and On the Turning Away
Shine on you crazy diamond, wish you were here, money, comfortably numb, run like hell
Dogs takes the prize for me, and "Animals" also wins the prize the for best album. I love the format with the bookends of "Pigs on the Wing," and then the other three in the middle. Fantastic all the way around.

And, to the point that the two "Pigs on the Wing" songs were back to back on the cassette version sounds like a very odd pressing. Were all the cassette versions indexed like that? It's one thing to listen to the CD on repeat (which I have done many times), so the re-start of the album begins in the same way that it ended. But, to have them both back to back on side-1 of a cassette tape, seems very strange. |
^^it's a local (Malaysian) pressing, indexed like that to preserve continuity, cos there'd be lengthy space at the end of side 2 if not
not sure about US or UK pressings |
