I`ve never really understood his appeal.
I keep being told they`re deep , edgy & progressive but I don`t see it. To me Tool are just your average doom & gloom rock with extra preteniousness. The songs jusy chug along while this idiot wails away in the background trying to be profound with added studio trickery to make it sound like they`ve made an effort. I could see why your average Limp Bizkit fan would see it as being progressive & clever. But in all honesty your average Tool album makes me fall asleep. |
Well .. each to their own .. although l disagree with your opinion .. Both Tool and APC are brilliant emotive bands striving for change, if you or anyone else who thinks Maynard is an average joe can't see this then you all should get your eyes checked or more to the point, ears ...

F.UCKINg MERRY CHRISTMAS! il be first inline for that one lol |
yes yes yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU! its about time too. ah well i guess it takes years to develop genius. peace, |
Too bad any time Tool announces a tentative release date, it always actually comes out about a year later. Honestly, I'm not 'on my toes' waiting for it. I've accumulated a laundry list of problems I have with Maynard & Co. over the past few years.
|
I wouldn't say they are diverse (at least in musicality) but they are an exceptional band. One of the reasons the 90's could chellenge the 60's for best musical decade.
|
Well, September 19th is the actual date i heard.
But who gives a toss if it's released a few months late Tool are worth the wait. |
Hey,
Who is Tool, i'm guessing they're a band! |

Tool and A Perfect Circle

they are one of my favorite bands mainerd is a great singer they have a different sound than most bands some very heavy and some not Now A Perfect Circle... its like a soft version of tool i guess i like em but i would like to see a new tool project soon.. you guys thoughts on either band |
Tool is the ****. I can't wait for the next album.
|
Tool is by far my favorite metal/progressive/hard rock band out there, and if anyone knows of any "nu-metal" bands that sound anything like Tool or are nearly as good, feel free to tell me about them. As for APC, they're pretty good, but I don't find them anywhere nearly as interesting as Tool.
|
Tool is great. I went through a huge Tool/APC stage a year ago. Maynard's voice somehow drew me into Tool very deep. The drumming puts me in a trance on some songs, especially off of lateralus. Tool fans frown on me because Aenima is my favorite album, with Lateralus being my 2nd. Some of my favorite songs are Stinkfist, Eulogy, H., Sober, Forty Six & 2, Pu****, Aenima, Third Eye, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Ticks&Leeches (very high up there for me great drumming), Lateralus, Disposition and Reflection. *Realizes that list was way to long*...

I like Tool a lot. Sometimes, I find the guitar to be a bit annoyingly simplistic at times, but it fits in very well, so that's ok.

I don't know if it's already been said, but their new album is scheduled for release April 2006.
Also, they're putting out two new DVDs with the music videos for Schism and Parabola on them, which have been previously unreleased which also include remixes of both songs. If you're an OGT, be excited! Just kidding. |

I don't know why but I find Lateralus to be a very light sort of heavy in many places. In Parabola, the feeling is enlightening. But this is strange because the music is so heavily played. I think Maynard makes it lighter using the softer vocals without the dismay he incorporated in past songs like Pu**** and H. I still think Tool are pretty dark in their feeling but maybe not so much in Lateralus. The Patient is probably my favourite song on that album right now. It's fairly comforting as a pose to much of their earlier angry work, or even the previous song of The Grudge. Oh and does anybody else think The Patient sounds just like APC's The Package? The same structure and sound. I think theres an uncanny resemblance. |
I was introduced to Tool through Opiate, and then I bought Aenima. I was thoroughly obsessed with Aenima for a while, and then I got Undertow and Lateralus at the same time, so I was sort of introduced to all aspects of Tool at the same time, with Undertow and Lateralus standing as almost polar opposites.
In any case, Lateralus always did strike me as a pretty mellow, almost psychadelic album, although it is still pretty dark, but I never really thought of it as "angry." I can listen to Tool regardless of what mood I'm in. I never did really get into the Patient though, it might just be because it was at the beginning of the CD and so I heard it more than the other songs which I might not get to... but songs like Schism, Parabola (Parabol more so, really), and Reflection always struck me as "light" especially compared to something like Ticks & Leeches or stuff on Undertow or Opiate. So no, I was never really bogged down by any similarity in tone on any Tool albums, in fact, the variety in tone is what always intrigued me about Tool. Maybe it's just because I'm a Tool-head. |
The variance is pretty amazing isn't it. Particularly on Lateralus.
To be hammered by The Grudge and then eased into a seductive Patient, it's pretty cool to make it all flow. And I'd particularly agree with being able to listen to them at anytime. Any mood. |
i agree lateralus is the most calm of all albums. Aenima on the other hand is probly the most angry of the albums, especially pu**** and the title track of course. Lateralus seems the most progressive of all the albums, and is probly my favorite for that reason, though I am quite fond of Aenima as well. Third eye is amazing...

The new Tool album title:
"10,000 Days" |
Tool is one of my favourite bands. There's no other band quite like them. I haven't read this entire thread, but I doubt there's much I can say about how amazing Tool is that hasn't already been said. Their music is unbelievably phenomenal and thought-provoking, and it's changed my life for the better. It has assisted greatly in the unsealing of my mind.
APC, on the other hand, eh. I've never cared much for them. |

I'm a bit skeptical about the Album name, it's nothing remotely unique like Aenima or Lateralus, Undertow or even Opiate. It seems out of character. Christ what am I talking about it's just an album name. |
I know what you mean, especially given Tool's history of messing with their fans.
That, and it sounds way too much like a Disturbed album for me. Maybe we're both just over-obsessive Tool fans but still... |

Okay so it's not like I'm excited or anything but, Track Listing for the new album!:
Vicarious Jambi Wings For Marie (Pt 1) 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) The Pot Lipan Conjuring Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) Rosetta Stoned Intension Right In Two Viginti Tres |
Lost Keys Blame Hofmann? That's not very subtle.
I don't know if they're messing with us. Considering we're dealing with Tool here, I'm going to remain skeptical. |
