Tool is great. I went through a huge Tool/APC stage a year ago. Maynard's voice somehow drew me into Tool very deep. The drumming puts me in a trance on some songs, especially off of lateralus. Tool fans frown on me because Aenima is my favorite album, with Lateralus being my 2nd. Some of my favorite songs are Stinkfist, Eulogy, H., Sober, Forty Six & 2, Pu****, Aenima, Third Eye, Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Ticks&Leeches (very high up there for me great drumming), Lateralus, Disposition and Reflection. *Realizes that list was way to long*...

They do have nice album covers don't they, except for some reason despite the thirteenth step being a great album, I really don't like the artwork :[
My favorite Tool cover by far is Aenima. I remember when I first bought it just looking at the holograms for the longest time, switching the different ones to the cover... The whole concept of the third eye/minds eye thing is crazy...

Same here, you kind of got to own tool albums considering the covers...

I like Tool a lot. Sometimes, I find the guitar to be a bit annoyingly simplistic at times, but it fits in very well, so that's ok.

I feel the same, but you sort of just have to listen to the band as a whole, not just one instrument or the vocals. The band as a whole works together so amazingly, and they produce some of the deepest musical concepts of any prog. group. The only problem I have with them is I get tired of that same dark, dreary, angry tone that you find in almost every tool song. If I want to listen to prog. for long amounts of time, I turn to the floyd...

I see what ya mean there, you would think that after a while they might find a different way to convey their message, but oh well. They're still great.

I don't know if it's already been said, but their new album is scheduled for release April 2006.

Also, they're putting out two new DVDs with the music videos for Schism and Parabola on them, which have been previously unreleased which also include remixes of both songs.

If you're an OGT, be excited!

Just kidding.

It's interesting because until Lateralus I had thought that as well.

I don't know why but I find Lateralus to be a very light sort of heavy in many places. In Parabola, the feeling is enlightening. But this is strange because the music is so heavily played. I think Maynard makes it lighter using the softer vocals without the dismay he incorporated in past songs like Pu**** and H.

I still think Tool are pretty dark in their feeling but maybe not so much in Lateralus. The Patient is probably my favourite song on that album right now. It's fairly comforting as a pose to much of their earlier angry work, or even the previous song of The Grudge. Oh and does anybody else think The Patient sounds just like APC's The Package? The same structure and sound. I think theres an uncanny resemblance.
