Sorry. Never considered Faust to be progressive rock. They seem to be more musique concrete/free improvisation/experimental rock. I guess their album, Faust So Far, as some traditional prog elements in it, though.

And no, I consider RIO/avant-prog to be a form of progressive rock. Being an avid fan of Henry Cow and Univers Zero, I would know this. Don't jump to conclusions, my friend...

Noone here's interested in a proggier-than-thou competition as it's generally something only morons would engage in.

Pretty much this. One of the things I like most about our prog community is that you don't feel a sense of competition or superiority amongst the other participants.

no my taste in prog is superior to all prog-listeners worldwide

So, obviously Faust is just as experimental as are RIO bands (moreso, Id say than RIO like Stormy Six). And much-mucho RIO is improv. So then, shouldnt be any difficulty in incorporating them in prog since you fit RIO with prog.

Anyways - no good getting caught up in thois sorta talk.
The music itself...and dissemination of, is what counts.

If you go by that mentality, then you could say that Derek Bailey is prog in the sense of free improvisation or Jandek in the sense of experimentation. (To my knowledge, neither of those are considered prog rock). Some people consider Faust prog rock - I do not.

I agree, but if you continue this superiority complex you've cooked up, then you'll most likely find yourself in this type of situation quite often.

As to the coverart, I submit a worthy title to the cd would have been:
"What manner of vagina did THAT pop out of?"

I thought this album was pretty dope actually, but I think that's a pretty unpopular opinion (because you punks don't understand it).

Competition in a way is at the root of progressive thought.
Without competition (and , of course discipline) you dont get superior product.
One-hand-clap = stagnation.

Like what was happening here before Baggs arrived!

Uhm... art can stand on its own and be created without the need for competition. Whether it is deemed "superior" (which is an illogical concept in itself) lies within the individual's view of it.

I don't really think you can enjoy the music either if you constantly feel the need to be more knowledgeable of it than those around you.

Baggs 04-20-2011 02:20 PM

If you dont have faith enough in the art you create to deem it superior - or at least near the level of your vision, what have you created that has any worth?

Youve just approached the level of status quo.
Thats all.
