i think this is a damn good list. apart from a few bands (which admittedly i don't like) i think it's really good.

and i appreciate you adding Roxy Music, boobs. slightly disappointed by the absence of Neu! and Faust but oh well (for that matter why Amon Duul instead of them?).

It's nice to see Harmonium on the list. "Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison" from 1975 is an excellent folk flavoured prog album!

Yeah Kraftwerk and Neu! became a real issue. In the end I felt there were other categories were they were more suitable, they don't sound all that different from various industrial and synth pop groups which no one in their right mind would call prog.

But it's a tough call and who's to say I won't change my mind in the future?

Tangerine Dream are electronic but they have a very Pink Floyd inspired feel to their work as opposed to the proto-synth pop of Kraftwerk. Amon Duul II and Can are not electronic and are straight up avant prog rock.

I probably do need to add Faust though.

Nice list. It's nice to see Dream Theater relatively low for once. I personally don't understand the inclusion of things like Muse but not Radiohead, and GYBE but not Sigur Ros. The two bands that were included seem less prog at times than their unincluded counterparts, but I'm just nitpicking. Good list.

Good list, at least you have Alan Parsons in the top 50. He should have gone top 30 but whatever. I noticed you kept the same top ten from before. Which is cool, I can make this list work.

p.s. also, to reply to your question from the other thread. If you're going to listen to Alan Parson's, get 'I, Robot'. It's a great album, and yes, it is based on the same story as the movies. Top 5 concept album imo. Check it out, I think you will seriously dig it.

Kraftwerk - yes
Tangerine Dream - yes
Neu! - no

let me explain. what Kraftwerk and TD explored synthesizers and how they could craft melody purely out of a wall of synthetic material, Neu! was largely organic. Rother and Dinger were multi-instrumentalists who got ejected from Kraftwerk because they wanted to explore a different avenue. and their sound was ENORMOUSLY influential, not just on the burgeoning German scene.

i suppose they were pretty short-lived (with a grand total of four studio albums to their name), but their looming influence on the rest of the world (especially bands like Porcupine Tree) was not.

haha. i was so excited to find that band until i started listening. it sounds reprehensible tame, more like Deuter and that new-age crap that the torch was passed to than anything else. i was so disappointed by Deluxe.
