re the Brian Eno thing: yeah you are right I suppose, Roxy Music and (for a while anyway) Eno got tarred with the 'glam' brush probably because it was big in the UK charts at the time and they dressed very exuberantly; but if you listen to the music there is really not a lot glam about it except some silly sci-fi oscillator noises and maybe the odd lyrical theme

He said almost. Sorta 10%

Seriously how about a bunch of comps with a track from each. A lot of work but good fun!

That would be fun. On a related note, is there a theme yet for the next MB Comp. or did it come out already and I missed it?

Their look was glam, their attitude was punk, but their actual sound was progressive. They embraced more pop and R&R influences than their peers though and that's what made them distinct.

I'll probably make a few changes first but yeah that sounds like a neat idea.

Picking a song for every band and uploading them would be a bitch though. What uploader would you recommend? Sendspace?

Mediafire is quick and you can have an account. Maybe a couple of us can chime in and help maybe?

Yeah, like discussing which songs to pick for each band.

I'd also recommend that for each band, let's try not to include any songs that are like 20 minutes long.

Well except for Godspeed, only because we don't really have a choice on the matter.

Work from the bottom up in batches of ten maybe? 5 minute tracks should be cool although some bands I haven't heard at all. Converesly the few into this sorta thing could each do a ten tracker of the bands we want in or are not as well known and we want to stay in?

Hoo, such a comp sure sounds like a lot of work .. Some of these bands are known for putting out some real epics (close to the edge, tarkus, nine feet underground, thick as a brick etc.) and since it's a compilation of prog bands, it would make sense to include those. If you do include those, such a compilation will grow to a size of gigabytes very quickly.

My guess would be at least 3 gigabytes of music for 100 tracks. Megaupload I think can handle up to 1 gig per upload, so then you could split it in three f.ex.

I could help with the comp though if someone wants to have a go. Not with hosting, but providing songs.
