Some would consider Talking Heads progressive. Under that criteria, they certainly deserve a spot.

yeah, and some people are mentally disabled too.
Talking Heads were pretty much the epitome of new wave. this thread isn't talking about music that progresses, it's talking about music specifically billed as "PROG". in that case there is absolutely nothing that holds them for discussion here. i did just realize there's no Talk Talk on the list though. what's wrong, boo boo, not a Mark Hollis fan? :( |
Yeah, Talking Heads are a new wave band with more progressive elements than their peers. They're certainly progressive but again thats not always the same as prog. I don't consider them a prog band at all.
I do need to update this list though. UPDATED: Wishbone Ash, Klaatu and Jade Warrior added. :pimp: |
It's a pain that what you consider "Prog" or ...progressive can be entirely different from music that is progressive by nature.
You're right to say that Talking Heads do not sound like many of the bands on this list, but many of the bands on this list don't sound like eachother either. =/ |
Well no but they still fit the "prog" discription.

their last three were most decisively on the proggier side though. atmospheric they may be but they're no less prog than Tangerine Dream.
and anyways, if Roxy Music is there, why not? |

Interesting list overall although there are a few mentioned that I would consider more rock than "prog", so to speak. Certainly bands like Rush, Queensryche, Tool, and Kansas have progressive elements however when all is said and done ROCK is what they do best. Excluding Kansas, I'll call the other aforementioned three progressive hard rock. It's got a nicer ring to it, don't you think? :thumb:
