Awesome! I got Univers Zero, Slapp Happy, Henry Cow and Far Corner and I've wanted to get into some more RIO .. I actually checked on this thread before when it was in it's infancy, but I didn't leave a post then and forgot to check back. That's a nice list, Demonoid

Many thanks!

If WTF is what you want, The Residents is what you need.

Also, good call on Crass. I have Penis Envy (lol wut did I just say?) and it's great, very prunk.

This needs some more love, I've always liked Henry Cow, but now I'm getting into Samla Mammas Manna on a big scale, and also Etron Fou Leloublan who are great. Really need to explore this genre more.

here you go then pal:

a little over twenty-five years ago three lovely fellows (Fred Frith, Bill Laswell and Fre Maher) came out of nowhere to produce this seminal album in 1981, which has evolved into somewhat of an iconic album for RIO supporters. its simplicity is deceptive, because it all exists within the guitar/bass/drum archetype yet somehow pervades all known stipulations for what 'music' should sound like. there's little to grab onto, but you'll find that the power trio were among the best out there for producing completely fucked music.

highly recommended album.

Fred Frith guested on the Etron Fou Leloublan album as well, pretty much all the albums tagged as RIO are brilliant. These guys did it all for the music.

It's a shame this thread doesn't get that much attention.

Anyways... my favorite avant-prog/RIO bands are both Henry Cow and Samla Mammas Manna.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
