Wow I can't believe Peppers actually won out.

The hipsters have been overcome. :finger:

But anyway, what's there not to like about Tommy?

People hate Tommy for the same reasons as Sgt. Pepper.

It influenced this.

Also I've finally listened to Sorrow (I admit I should have done this before voting). Fantastic psychedelia, I think I might like it more than Piper, but nothing beats out Peppers for me.

And aside from having a lot of songs that are thematically linked I don't get the Tommy comparisons, I think that's just another example of the hipsters primal desire to discredit everything that is popular because it's influenced by or has some minor similarities to something not so popular.

This is a tough choice, as I like all three albums and a quick look over at my RateYourMusic ratings shows that I've given all three the same rating of 4 stars. What am I to do. I'm tempted to cast my vote for Sgt. Pepper's simply because it seems the most melodic and also varied. It is more polished and accessible than the others but that can be a pro and a con. I don't really care for "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" as I've heard it too many times.

However, the last couple times I listened to Piper at the Gates of Dawn, it really did grow on me. I happen to have it on my iPod so I'll play it sometime today. I like The Pretty Things and S.F. Sorrow, but honestly I prefer their following album Parachute to this one. I think some of S.F. Sorrow is a bit too harsh for some reason (not that I don't listen to harsh music). I think I'll have to give that one another spin also before making my decision. Unfortunately I don't have it with me today.

Having heard all 3, i would say S. F Sorrow and Piper are on par - both are better than Sgt Pepper's. There's nothing hipster whatsoever about voting for something that isnt the Beatles, especially when voting for an album as good as these two.

Knocking on Sgt Pepper is very hipster, so is thinking Floyd went to crap after Barrett.

I need to give Sorrow more listens but I don't think it'll reach Pepper's level for me. Piper doesn't come close to Peppers, at all. Peppers is IMO the 2nd best Beatles album after Abbey Road.

Piper is like.... the 8th best Floyd album.

I genuinely dont like Sgt Peppers that much, i dont like half the songs and im not a huge fan of its grandeur. And im a massive Beatles fan, i would also agree with you in saying Abbey Road is my favourite. But personally i prefer Rubber Soul, Revolver, the White Album, Let It Be and Beatles For Sale to Sgt Pepper.

I love the concept implicit within Sorrow, its a musical journey of sorts that takes you through all sorts of emotions. And Piper being Floyd's 8th best album, well, thats just personal opinion, it's not my favourite Floyd album, and its not my favourite psychedelic album either, but it's in the top 3 of Floyd's discography for me.

My mum doesn't like Sgt Pepper either.

She spends her time listening to all that hipster military band music & hipster classical stuff.

I love piper and i heard that the beatles got inspiration from it too.
It is so different to anything else from that period and uplifting in my opinion.

Pepper was released two months before Piper.
