Magma

I'm finally getting into their S/T, and it's awesome. Reading this turns it into a concept album of eskimo-like weirdness

Their debut is rooted more in jazz/avant-garde fusion. Reminds me of Frank Zappa often. Some of the bass lines were amazing to say the least
Great Jazz-Fusion/Avant-garde album. I wouldn't consider it "Zeuhl" yet. Even their second record is very good, but more of a transition album. Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh is where the weirdness starts! A blend of so many genres and the songs have quite a repetitive structure. There are some of the jazz elements, but it doesn't feel Jazzy at all. Well, you could just call it Magma or Zeuhl i guess :p:
Yeah, definitely listen to 1001° Centigrades next or just jump onto Destruktiw Kommandoh.

Do you think you could send me MDK? Can't seem to find it online..

Yeah, their debut really reminds me of Zappa or Soft Machine at times.

I'll hook you up CA.. if I can find it, hang on, on a more topical note, magma are absolutely awesome.

Magma is simply WIN, though I only have their debut album right now in my playlist. I've listened to tracks from some of their later records on YouTube though. Godly stuff...

*cough Comus link us up here cough*

Check pms.

I've upped Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh. Let me know if anyone else is interested.

The lyrics, well, It's all in a made up language(Kobaian) and i honestly have no idea what these songs mean, but even that adds to the experience. Just think of the vocals/lyrics as another instrument or feel free to make up your own meaning :D

Magma is freaking intense and Mekanik is a flabbergasting slice of prog.

My flatmates (bar one) don't like it too much. :D

Hit me baby.

Demonoid 10-27-2008 05:06 PM

Done :yeah:
Would be weird to listen to that first, but I'm sure you can handle anything obscure.

Inuzuka Skysword 10-27-2008 05:21 PM

Magma is one of my favorite prog bands. :) I got into them last spring and wrote about them for my school.

Oh my lord, I just started listening to Magma and they're blowing me away. Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh is supremely overblown but a really well-orchestrated album. I love this stuff.

Is there anything else of Magma's that compares favorably to this?

Their debut for sure, followed by 1001 Centigrades. :)

Magma fans, I have a question - I have been listening to Magma for some time now, but I have only recently really started to listen their music. Since then, I have discovered Vander's language and whole story behind their music, so I am wondering, if there is any good site that have info about that Kobaian language and the whole story behind it. Thanks.

The one thing this board has done is half tempted me to get into prog. I mean I'm not going to be fapping to Dream Theater anytime soon or anything, but Magma sounds like a pretty good place to start.

Kole 10-14-2009 12:42 PM

Well, Zeuhl is hardly prog rock. It is however somewhat of obscure genre, but it is kinda realted to prog rock.
I too don't like prog metal (DT is in that genre IMO), but prog rock... there is much love =).

Love Magma. Their Live album is really good. Jannick Top is an amazing musician too. I think the material with Top is my favorite over all. He always had an amazing chemistry with Magma.

Sneer 10-26-2009 11:11 AM

Can someone sort me out with some Magma?

debaserr 10-27-2009 12:20 AM
