Default Arena

Any other Arena fans on here? I've just broken out of a vicious circle of album-to-album, playlist-to-playlist listening of their repertoire --- I didn't want to stop, but I have other stuff to listen to, so I just had to force myself (and promptly ended up in the same situation with Mostly Autumn! Oh well...)
I love all their stuff: I don't think I've come across a bad track yet. Their musical profociency is amazing, and the depth of their lyrics just incredible. Without doubt one of my favourite prog rock bands at the moment.

It's alright, but it's more part of the progressive "sound" rather than being progressive in itself, it's good, not great. It's good if you're tired of the mainstream 70's prog but don't want too much change, and you're too lazy to check out the more obscure bands of the 70's. For such a modern band as Arena is, I think it's very much rooted in the 70's, it's not a bad thing by any means but there's better stuff out there, and of course much much worse.

That's cool, each to their own. My soon-to-be-published personal journal admits that I'm not too adventurous in my musical tastes, but I knows what I likes, as they say!

Should check out some of the old prog reviews in my journal, ignore the few metal ones if you're not into that.

More or less what comus said...good but unadventurous. But sometimes I like it that way

One thing I'll never deny, and that is that I am NOT adventurous in my music! I don't like people banging a row of cow skulls and calling it music. I don't like someone screaming and calling it singing. I don't like someone hammering the side of a car with a wrench and calling it a tune. There's nothing wrong with any of this, good luck to 'em! But it's not what I look for in my music.
The closest I get to avant-garde is the more experimental stuff from Tom Waits, and even some of that I don't like.
Hey, I'm old and set in my ways. I like my music to consist of a guitar, bass, piano/keyboard/synth, maybe some brass, drums, vocals and not a whole lot else. I like to be able to understand what I'm listening to, in music terms, and I like my music to be pleasing to my ear, not discordant.
That's just me, but it's something you need to understand about me when you tell me stuff I like is unadventurous.
I LIKE unadventurous!
Or, to put it another way, if it ain't broke....
Thus my love of Arena will continue despite deprecating comments. Each to their own, but I love this band!
