Kak:


From youtube: Prior to joining Blue Cheer, guitarist/vocalist Gary Lee Yoder, was a founding member of Kak, one of the most talented, versatile and underrated of all the psychedelic bands to come out of California in the 1960s. The group was together for only one year, and left behind a legacy of only a single album, Kak'ola.

I got this one from The Celler Tapes An Alternative Look At The 1960's, here's The C.A Quintet:


And last but not least, Gandalf:

From Wikipedia: Gandalf were an influential late 1960s psychedelic rock group. They were an American band originally called the Rahgoos and formed by Peter Sando, Frank Hubach, Bob Muller and Davy Bauer. They signed a record deal with Capitol Records in 1967 who made them rename the band Gandalf. They recorded ther first and only LP the same year. The record includes covers of Tim Hardin, Eden Ahbez and Bonner & Gordon (the writer of "Happy Together") and a few songs composed by the band itself. But Capitol spurned them and only released the LP in 1969 with the wrong record inside the sleeve. The copies were recalled and damaged the band's career. Capitol didn't promote the record which make the sales worse.Over the years the album's reputation grew and it was re-released by Sundazed records in 2002.

Well i enjoyed all 3 of those videos. Maybe out of those 3, Kak sounds closest to my thing but Cellar Tapes write up on C.A Quintet is fantastic and thats a great cover.

God I wish I had links to all three of those. I found Gandalfs album Gandalf 2, and I got the album by The CA Quintet, but no luck on Gandalfs first LP or Kak's s/t. Actually I posted something about it in MB's Most Wanted and am currently trying desperatly to get into What.cd so I can get a hold of them... little fuckers. I'll PM the two I have asap.

I just got the Gandalf album and if I can find it again I'll send it. I'm pretty sure I found Kak too! Also What.cd is god damn hard to get into, I can't even figure out mIRC enough to know if I'm in the "interview" room or not. Much peace,

Here's a Q, do you prefer Kaleidoscope UK or Kaleidoscope US?

For me although US were perhaps more consistent in their releases, they didnt release anything as good as Tangerine Dream

I have to go with the British band too Stu. Both Tangerine Dream and Faintly Blowing are marvellous, with the latter pushing for my favour, with production of the highest order, I mean Black Fjord is just amazing. They werent at all bad as Fairfield Parlour either.

i got hold of Faintly Blowing a couple of weeks ago actually, really dynamite stuff. Kaleidoscope are on of my favourite British psych groups i think, the only albums that stand toe to toe with Tangerine Dream are The Story of Simon Simopath, Piper At The Gates of Dawn, the Moby Grape s/t and the July s/t. All of my other favourite psych albums are great, but they dont quite hit the spiritual levels or sheer pop artistry of these three.

thee vicars, back on the street, teenagers with atitude, heavilly influenced from the 60's garage/psych era, these boys barely out of school, have managed to capture the retro sound and still acheive to keep a modern vibe, going down well in the mod clubs, mostly in the london area..
