Love
One of the more underrated psychedelic bands of the 60s. Forever Changes is a great album. I think my favorite song is Andmoreagain or Alone Again Or. Any fans?
|
For some reason, I could never get into them. I have heard Forever Changes a few times and whilst never disliking it, I can never become immersed in it.
|
Forever Changes took me a few listens to really get into. Just put it on during a sunny day when walking through the flowers with some hippies and it'll click with you.
|
I think it is maybe TOO gentle for me. Not that I dislike gentle. Far from it but when it comes to psychedelic, I prefer a little more distortion like 13th Floor Elevators.

They really are horribly underrated. While I also think Forever Changes is their best work, Da Capo and their S/T were fantastic as well.
As far as a favorite song, I'd have to go with 7 & 7 is..that song is blistering! I wish more of their material was in the same garage rock vein. Other songs I really enjoy by them are A House is Not a Motel, Alone Again Or, My Little Red Book (also very garage-y), and Signed D.C. Shame they never got the acclaim they truly deserved. |
7 and 7 Is is one of my favourite 60's songs, there's such a bite to it and the vocals are so passionate. I can't think of that many 60's songs that rocked as hard as that one.

I came across a compilation on SLSK with 7 different bands doing covers of 7 & 7 is (mostly other 60s garage bands) and they're all pretty terrible, to be honest. Although, the Ramones do a pretty good version of Acid Eaters. Seems no one can really match the intensity of that song without sounding like they're trying too hard.
As far as other 60s songs that rock that hard, The Sonics music is fairly accessible these days. If you haven't checked them out, you must. |

They were a huge influence on Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian, for what it's worth...

even the lack of replies to this thread indicates how criminally underrated Love truly is. |

I agree, one of the main bands of the 60's to me. |
