Richard Wright

Syd Barrett, no doubt.

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is miles and miles above anything else made by the group.

boo boo 07-18-2008 06:39 AM

Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.

Absolutely! Now the floyd were a sum of the parts in particular post syd barrett floyd. But the best musician and one with the most promise was Wright, I think he kinda was edged out after Dark Side but his contributions to previous records and Dark Side was brilliant

lucifer_sam 07-18-2008 03:08 PM

Alan Parsons.

Sorry, I just get annoyed when the same crap gets copy and pasted.

The Monkey 07-19-2008 07:37 AM

You saying I copy-pasted something?

boo boo 07-19-2008 07:59 AM

No not literally. I just mean several people have said pretty much the same thing if not those same exact words. And when it's an opinion I don't agree with of course it's gonna bother me a little when it's repeated over and over.

Roger Waters for me...but David Gilmore's guitar playing is awesome too...

COBHCNick 07-20-2008 06:01 PM

Certainly David Glimour.

It took all of the members to create what we know today as Pink Floyd. I'm a fan... such a fan... of most Floyd. However, Syd took them past the disgruntled English schoolboys they were. I even love all of Syd's solo stuff. Gilmour is a genuis... so are Mason and Wright (RIP)

Roger Waters can't be overlooked for his impact on what we know as... well, as Floyd.

However, seeing Roger today... for some reason he just pisses me off!

agreed entirely.

It's annoying when people say Syd was Floyd.

Guybrush 12-02-2008 02:47 AM

Put me down for one David Gilmour, please.

Well, for a while Syd was Floyd. Floyd with him vs. without him is a very different group. Don't get me wrong... I love 'em both, but to a lot of people... he was Floyd.

Double X 12-02-2008 12:37 PM

I think Syd was the best songwriter and singer, Gilmour was the most talented instrumentally but has a boring voice and isn't very prolific in songwriting. Waters was a very good songwriter and has a distinct voice though...
Probably:
1. Syd
2. Waters
3. Gilmour
4. Wright
5. Mason

Waters and Gilmour both have indistinct voices, and it's difficult to distinguish between the two at times. (Waters' songwriting style is more self-imposing, but his voice certainly isn't). Just listen to Dogs and try to pick out each voice -- they both sing on the track.

The appeal of Pink Floyd has never been the singing (with the notable exception of The Great Gig in the Sky).

It's a piece of piddle to tell Waters and Gilmour's voices apart, they both sound completely different. Gilmour takes the vocals until the breakdown and Waters ends the track and I think that they were'nt the best group vocally, the combination of all three singing styles (Gilmour, Waters and Wright) added so much to their music.

Double X 12-02-2008 03:54 PM

I think Waters has a very bitter/sarcastic voice at times (The Wall) and Gilmour has a much softer voice in general.

dac 12-02-2008 04:12 PM

I like Waters' voice more, but my favorite songs have Gilmour singing... does that make any sense?

Guybrush 12-02-2008 04:35 PM

Am I the only one who also appreciates post-Waters Pink Floyd? :p

Are you kidding? Their voices are completely different and easy to tell apart.

Waters, Gilmour and Wright weren't amazing singers, but their different voices helped make Floyd what it is and they're certainly not replacable.

And Waters vocal style is very imposing.

Double X 12-10-2008 12:49 PM

Waters has an amazing voice, it just seems that Gilmour happens to sing on the most famous ones...

boo boo 12-10-2008 01:20 PM

Gilmour is my favorite of the bunch, actually, but Waters is great too.

Wright's vocals were underrated, usually when he sings a part in a song, it's the best part.

groovemongrel 12-16-2008 10:49 AM

I'm going with Gilmour but I love Wright.

boo boo 12-19-2008 12:54 AM

Yeah, it sucks that he died. Of all the Pink Floyd members he certainly seemed the most likable as a person.

Exactly how I feel.

thechad90000 12-19-2008 01:48 PM

David Gilmour is my favorite. Of course that could be a guitar player's bias.
