I am surprised that you have never posted in my Floyd review thread as you are a Floyd fan. Maybe my dissing of The Wall put you off.

Yeah I don't want to start another Wall argument, everything that you could say about that album has been said.

Nevertheless; as a Floyd fan, input would have been greatly appreciated with my reviews. I never count Relics personally as it was a compilation and not a full album release. I will be reviewing Relics and the solo albums very soon.

I count Relics because it had 6 tracks that were previously not released on an LP. If they left out the tracks off Piper, Saucerful and More and added tracks like Apples and Oranges, Candy & a Current Bun, Point me at the Sky and unreleased songs like Vegetable Man instead, it would have been a great stand alone album.

It would have been better definitely but at the end of the day it is still a compilation. Point Me At The Sky is not a great song though and Candy & A Currant Ban does'nt fare much better. However 'Paintbox' is a massive redeemer and is very close to being in my top ten Floyd Tracks.

I bet Relic's is great...Arnold Layne and See Emily Play are 'must haves'.

Educated hipsters will typically have kind things to say about at least The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Meddle, and Dark Side Of The Moon; will appreciate King Crimson prog; and will also be keen on Krautrock prog. Sure, they might not turn out to be great fans of Floyd or Crimson, but they'd do as much as to recognize their merits. Hipsters who just write off anything that could be classified as prog are a minority of idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. It's like, you've got hipsters who will write off the Beatles too. Again, a minority of idiots within the larger "group" who have not the foggiest of clues what they are on about.

Oh no, they appreciate albums that deserve to be appreciated? What an outrage.

Well I run into alot of them for them to just be a minority.

Hmm? Where'd I condemn it?

And I run into a lot of prog-heads who listen to nothing but prog (and maybe some prog metal too! hip hip hooray!) and claim other music is "compositionally inferior" and the other typical meaningless spiel. But you tell me that that is a minority of proggies, and I take your word at that. Fair enough, you know better than me on that accord and have seen more of such people. I personally know a good deal of Pitchfork-hipster sorts (the worst kind!) both at university, from life, and among my younger brother's peers, and it's not common to find one who would entirely write-off prog and particularly not bands like Floyd and Crimson (who both tend to receive considerable acclaim even from the indie community).

Depending on what your definition is of "prog" and how expansive and encompassing it is, sites like Pitchfork could be accused of liking all sorts of "prog music" if you look at some of their decade best-of lists (e.g. are Krautrock bands like Neu and Can prog? Experimental Eno? Who's to say!). What this means is that from the perspective of prog fans, it is really just a certain number of types of prog that are particularly disliked by indie fans - often, apparently, the types of prog represented by bands like Yes, Genesis, Caravan and so forth... Hey, here's a thought: I'm yet to see a proggie best-of-70s list to include a Ramones album!

Peace.
