Zappa is bliss :)

Zappa is such a strange figure. For the longest of time I was only introduced to such a shortage of material like "Valley Girl" and "Dancin' Fool" or basically his most piss-takey type stuff.

Years later after seeing a few interviews by the man, and delving deeper into his material(especially early Mothers) I've gained a new found appreciation for the man.

It's a major shame that only the toilet humor side of Zappa is really known. I mean, it's a very important side, but I think the intellect of him, and his music, is by far one of the most underappreciated aspects of Zappa. Albeit, I doubt he'd be pretentious enough to mind.

Honestly, I think as acclaimed as he is, Zappa is still by far one of the most under-appreciated figures in all of music. The way he'd fearlessly hold his own opinions, and had such a respect for a wide variety of music while even more fearlessly showcased an irreverent spirit to mainstream trends.

He opened doors to forms of musical experimentation in mainstream rock music that were just not possible before. Honestly, music would been a way darker blander place without him.

To be honest, he's my musical idol. Not only was the man a total genius, but he didn't limit himself to any one genre. Sure, you have bands that mix styles, but Zappa's one of the only people who's covered pretty much everything possible and done it well. As you say, he stood up for his opinions, etc...he was just generally an amazing person.

Who doesn't like Zappa's cover of "Stairway To Heaven"?

How exactly would one go about introducing themselves to Zappa? Bearing in mind I've got absolutely no idea about him or his music.
