I like Waters vocals, but they have a more "madman" quality to them. When he started taking over on vocals, Floyds music become more raw and dark (but more pompous and indulgent as well, not that its a bad thing). As opposed to the more mellow stuff of the 1970/75 period.

Which era is better is simply a matter of personal taste. I think both are great.

Though The Final Cut did piss me off.

Both work for me. Their catalog is eclectic enough for me to find something enjoyable in each release.

Yeah. ELP lyrics are hillariously bad. Rush lyrics are really sappy too.

But Peter Gabriel, Ian Anderson and Peter Hammell were all talented lyricists. Neal Morse (Spocks Beard) and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) are too. As well as Richard Palmer-James, who wrote the lyrics for 3 King Crimson albums before forming Supertramp. And of course Roger Waters is an amazing lyricist.

Even Jon Anderson had his moments, even though he will be best remembered for lines like "Dig it" and "Cha cha cha, cha cha".
