The Mars Volta concerts?

How are they? I might go to one this year.

RapSucks 05-20-2007 02:44 PM

THEY'RE HORRIBLE!!! I was forced to see them twice because they opened for two bands I liked. They're totally incoherent!

sleepy jack 05-20-2007 03:03 PM

I'd watch some on youtube. I've heard they're good in small venues bad in big venues or maybe the other way around. I think adidasss saw them.

Inuzuka Skysword 05-20-2007 03:07 PM

They look very energetic in the videos. Though I don't know if he was serious about the moshing stuff. I have watched some interviews an him and Omar seem to joke a lot.

Frances 05-20-2007 05:29 PM

They're AWESOME! But I think you really need to know the albums, once you know their music you can appreciate what they do on stage heaps heaps more.

Inuzuka Skysword 05-20-2007 06:16 PM

I have been listening to all their albums in rotation since yeterday. So I think I am good.

Haha! It'll probably take a little longer with these ones man, try another month.

Edit: Or more!

adidasss 05-21-2007 02:11 AM

I never saw them Eth. They played in Croatia before I ever knew they existed.

At the rate I am going I will attempt a week. And I think I know why you are telling me to listen to the music a lot. There must be a lot of improvision.

Yep, a heap. Some songs stretch to 25 minutes, and if you don't know the song, it's all afro and noise.

That made my day....

Go see them...but you have to understand the Volta...unlike the queer RHCP and SOD fans.

Music is usually more than just rambling, unintterupted noise. You can have improvisation and jams and your songs can still be coherent and of reasonable length. Take the ear plugs out of your ears. You'll notice that The Mars Volta sounds exactly the same as with the ear plugs in and other bands actually sound better.

Haha Yeah, I've read the Nirvana thread.

RapSucks 05-21-2007 10:18 PM

Also, I respect other peoples opinions thats why I didn't respond to any posts until Mr. Hate dropped his hate bomb on me people of my musical taste. I was just offering the guy who was curious about what they're like in concert my opinion. I didn't really care what other people said.

Actually a shouldn't even be included in it, you don't include the, of, a, etc. Which is why its USA, not USOA, just as an example.

Laces Out Dan! 05-21-2007 10:19 PM

I can give you that..but srrsly...check out Mos Def..and Wu Tang

Well I guess system of a down wanted to be different.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 05-21-2007 11:00 PM

I saw them live about a year and a half (I think) ago. I don't remember it that much, but it was pretty sick. It was in a stadium and the whole lights effect and the music was pretty great, and Cedric is really energetic. However, I didn't know that many songs by them then, so I was kinda bored by the end.

Now as much as I hate SOAD, and dislike this guy, I have to say this. If everyone calls them SOAD, which everyone does, then it is acceptable. The whole point of a definition is that you shorten a word (or words) and you are still able to know what it means.

I believe it means, "take away his haterade."

I'm just being technical since he was, it should actually be SOD but its fine with it being SOAD since as you said everyone does.

I saw 'em live once with System of a Down. I love The Mars Volta, but it was pretty awful - I think its just because the sound setup was bad though, I know all of their music and I had a really hard time identifying what songs they were playing. I've heard nothing but good things about their live shows from other people that have seen them, though.

paxdomini 04-05-2008 08:14 PM

So, does anyone on this branch actually ... understand what's going on at Mars Volta concerts? I'm looking for a little insight.

Petula07 01-31-2011 05:19 PM

Hmm, I have started with this band and even their big fans told me their concerts are big loud mess. Or better say it's impossible to have good sound for such a band.
I would like to have my own chance to judge their live show.

But this jam seems to be really nice :)
