Reccomend me some experimental prog stuff

I've been listening to The Mars Volta and The Sound of Animals Fighting, as well as Muse but they're not really prog, just experimental. So yeah, I just want some more bands that would kinda fall into this categorization. Try to keep it to bands whose albums I could find at either Sam Goodys or FYE, nothing too underground as I have no way of getting those albums.

Is VDGG an acronym for something? I checked out Gentle Giant, really good, better than Volcano, probably gonna look for an album if I have enough left come this weekend.

Are down for any progressive metal stuff? because Pain of Salvation owns soo much..and they're not very heavy or anything..also....King Crimson, Porcupine Tree is great,

I've heard of King Crimson before, nevere actually listened, i'll check them out tonight. Porcupine Tree is great, a friend of mine from Canada showed me them, really good stuff. I'll check Pain and King later tonight, i'm at school at the moment.

I think there is one like 15 minutes from my grilfriends house..... I believe the name was Hastings, it looked rather like a chain so I didn't think they'd have anything good.

Cynic!

The Dave 09-13-2006 09:42 PM

I searched Cynic and found so many bands, is this the one you're referring to www.myspace.com/cynicofcynics because if so then they are fairly decent, not really what I was looking for but a plesent suprise.

King Crimson was really good, gonna need to find an album somewhere.

I can up one for you...or a couple.

The Dave 09-13-2006 09:45 PM

My computer sucks way too much to download, thanks though.

Progu(might)like

Try Guru Guru Dance of the Flames.
If you don't die laughing at the lyrics and the overdose of wah wah, the first track, Dagobert Duck's 100th Birthday, is a stormer. Imagine Hendrix meets John McLaughlin meets Walt Disney meets Lenny Bruce. DO NOT download the rest of the album - prog it might be, cack it sure is.
You can get it on Napster.

You by Gong is cool in a hippy trippy way (Gomusic) and for a classic it has to be Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn - at least that's easy to get!

Get the album Black Utopia by Derek Sherinian if ur into teh keyboards.

Or Michael Pinnella's Enter by the Twelfth Gate.
