There's not very many of the 'Big Dawg's', That are in the same level as a unique talent, In comparison to Pink Floyd within the history of Classic Rock. Let alone, Bands that are hard to characterize what style of music they should be classified in. I would suggest 'Steely Dan' vs. 'Pink Floyd'? That would only be more fair to Dream Theater by all right's. Maybe, Dream Theater vs. Queensryche, or even better 'Winger'? (just kidding) go on with the main thread (subject).

VocalsBass makes an excellent point.

However, since I must choose, I'll go with Pink Floyd by far. I've listened to their music my entire life, and when I hear their amazing music it just means alot to me.

Do Dream Theater actually write lyrics or do they just hold open a copy of '1001 80s metal cliches' and stick a pin in it blindfolded?

Okay. Operation Mindcrime is like all of DT albums rolled into one tidy CD, minus the mindless solos. Queensryche demonstrated more creativity and originality on one album, than DT has over 9.

Oh....I agree with you 100% 'almauro'. Thats why I mentioned Winger also. I dont care much for DT myself. So someone that knows their music better than I, would be better at picking a band that would be a good match for DT. The thing is, people tend to twist or simply just misunderstand a statement (Post). I like Queensryche very much, I just mentioned them because they hit the music scene closer to the same time & decade as DT did. compared to the decade Pink Floyd hit the scene. It was the 70s or even sooner if I stand correct?

Well I'm 44 and DT is and has been my favorite band for several years. I grew up listening to PF and they aren't even in the same class as DT musically.

So you are an individual, with your opinion. You have your likes. & dislikes, Even if it isnt the same opinion as the majority vote. And so, (That should be respected). I do not hate DT, as a band, I simply have my own opinions, & favorites also. So I agree, D.T. is definatly! Not in the same class with Floyd.

I would agree that DT is much more talented instrument wise, but creatively they are def lacking compared to PF.

Dream who? ...

Both are talented bands, but I don't 'Feel' DT the way I do when 'Meddle' is on the turntable.
Techincal ability is on DT's side, but let's not forget that Dave is a pretty damn good guitar player.

(Strats and compressors baby!)
