Question about a particular style of singing
 

I wonder about a particular style of singing, examples:

Halsey
K.Flay
Ruelle
Catey Shaw

It seems there are hundreds of singers using this style, question I have when and by whom it was developed? Are their opinions and information about it? Because it's so similar, it cannot be very original. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to understanding or feel this type of singing, maybe I'm generally not able to understand this recent generation of young people.
