From Romantic to Excruciating: The Art of The Duet
I'm not a fan of overly romantic songs, and when confronted by two lovebirds cooing to each other in a song I usually watch with a kind of horrified fascination, like "How cheesy can this become?"
So it was with pleasure that I came across this duet which is done with great style and a touch of humour:- (Back story: Miguel Bosé is actually the uncle of Bimba Bosé, which makes the sexual charge of this video a little odd to say the least. What's sad though is that Bimba (31 years old when she appeared in this video) died just ten years later from cancer that moved voraciously - from breast to liver to brain.) Anyway, this is a thread for anyone who wants to unburden themselves on the topic of vocal duets; The Good, The Bad and The Cheesy. |

Amy Winehouse sounds like she’s making fun of disabled people

To do a decent duet live is as much about acting as it is about singing, and while Esther has a good voice everything else about this duet is pretty cringeworthy imo:- |
Live footage is more amusing for video clips but this is a great song. |
Some say they're still hugging to this day
|
^ lol
I like some of Amy. Not the biggest fan of the clip but it's a nice example of what can happen with two very dissimilar voices. My fave duet of all time: Seriously though, Under Pressure is pretty damn awesome. |

^^^^ That gave me goosebumps when it got to the iso track!
Thank god for Jimmy Miller and what he lent to The Stones during that period! |
One thing that the combined forces of MB do well is explore a theme in music. A lot of surprises in your recommendations so far - especially Dancing in the Street and the song from Jungle Book. Thanks. And thanks to Psy-Fi too, for the info on Gimme Shelter and the gospel song; that young girl on the right really knows how to fire up a crowd by giving her all!
Actually, Stuart Staples is pretty deadpan too, but that suits the lyrics of this song by Tindersticks, Travelling Light (which should not be confused with Travellin' Light by Cliff Richard or Traveling Light by Leonard Cohen):- Spoiler for Travelling Light Lyrics:

Does anyone remember that time Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson were on the same song? Of course you don't cause it was unmemorable and pointless.

^ This is by MM but it is not the lady herself, although to judge from the cameraman's lop-sided attention you might imagine otherwise. |

so we gotta go for the exceptions in this rule. i got a great one in mind but i ll start with the second that came to my mind: would you call this a duet? (i m not sure.) its Aesop with K. Dawson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FweJYmdiP5k |

I didn't recognise a single name or title on your duet, so I had no idea what to expect, and discovered an unusual song. Nice. Here's an old favorite of mine, though not a boy/girl duet:- |

Charo Bogarin, of the duo "Tonolec" from Argentina, with singer-songwriter Malena Muyala from Uruguay, playing the song "Pasos" by Malena Muyala...
Charo Bogarín y Malena Muyala - Pasos |
and now for something completely diferrent, the Kim Gordon/Chuck D duet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDTSUwIZdMk p.s @ Lisnaholic i m good, thanks for asking!! no particular reason we didnt bump into each other these days i guess. |
Prolapse had two vocalists, one male one female.
also the two vocalists were romantically involved so i guess there were tensions. a pretty good thing to do about tensions is a song i guess, so here's maybe the best "duet" i can think of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qroI-VWDNY |
Bobby Womack and Lana Del Rey

My favourite duets are:

Some nice pop duets there, Eleanor. I especially like Ebony and Ivory which does something worthwhile that music is always capable of, but doesn't necessarily do: send a message and example of racial tolerance.
Here's one of the most famous duets of the 60s. Like so much pop, it's a rather manufactured commodity and looking at it today I wondered, what exactly is the product Sonny and Cher are offering ? Answer, imo: buy into a hippy fairy tale about two good-looking lovers, united in rejecting convention and living in blissful poverty. I feel that they, and the entire audience should be wearing rose-coloured spectacles. |

Also, I thought again about what I wrote: maybe there is a time in our lives when it's perfectly valid to hope that love will conquer all. That's what young people deserve: to explore the chance of a happy romantic future. |

I think that about 98% of popular music is about happy romantic future lol. |
