Futuristic Retro-Pop
Okay so I am creating a playlist on Spotify with the best pop tunes that sound both futuristic and also harken back to the late 90's/early 00's, and I'm looking for suggestions. Here's some examples to whet the appetite:
Help a brother out :yeah: |
Okay so this is a fucking hard specific sound to find (proven by how hard y'all tried and came up with nothing) so I'm just gonna make a futuristic pop playlist instead.
|
The hook not so much but the first part of the song before she introduces the hook is really cool |
You're right, Clancy, this is a tough one. I like this jam from Femme though, Peaches vibes for certs. |
I think I got a winner with this one |
Edit: ^ That track definitely has the right kind of production but the vocals aren't right. Closer to Hip Hop/R&B. Good shit though. Same reason why I wouldn't put a Kitty track in this category.
Like those tunes but I think they just miss the mark in regards to sounding more "futuristic". It's a sound that I think will become quite substantial over the next few years due to the increasing popularity of the alternative pop sound. But at that point it will no longer be a "futuristic" sound, it will just be what pop sounds like lol Also I'd say Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience has some tracks that would fit in. Kinda at least. |

No Police is kind of retro-retro modern-retro but not really “futuristic” At worst we can try to hit the spot and build a thread with some cool new stuff I’ll keep trying |
I don't think I have ever liked a song more than this:
Stanning more than Batty for Ke$ha. Funnily enough, if TiK ToK was released today I would probably post it in this thread :D |

How about Poppy |
Ayeeeeee somehow I forgot Poppy.

Forgive me if they're the wrong type of songs, not sure what you mean by "Futuristic Retro-Pop".
Fischerspooner - The 15th The retro thing in this song is that it's a cover of a 1979 song by Wire, but Fischerspooner also makes it sound futuristic. Vitalic - Your Disco Song The theme of the song is retro: Disco - which is a dance craze all the way back in the 70s - so that makes it really retro, and another retro thing about it is that it ends sorta sound like I.F. Space Invaders are Smoking Grass, maybe it's the fuzzy synth or something like that. Popsimonova - Delete Yourself A bunch of retro tencho hooks and junk like that. |
Good tunes Neo but not really what I'm looking for. There's a few tunes in the OP that give you a sense of what I am looking for.

Bingo.

Completely not finished and absolutely rough song ordering, but here's my Futuristic Pop playlist on Spotify.
Will be changed quite a bit over time. |
How about that French group I would play in plug.dj?
Jolie Cherie - Insomnie |
I like.
|
Ritualz Ghetto Ass Witch |
That's a wut even from me

In hindsight it's a little too ambient/ethereal for this thread but I still think you'll dig it.
