Default Popular Gangnam Style!

So, Gangnam Style has 2.2b views on YouTube. There is no doubt that it is a well constructed dance song but i think there is more to it. Psy didnt seem to conform to the current scene in terms of lyrics and its comical music video, and this allowed a broader range of people to connect with it. 2.2 billion views is a staggering amount and i want some input in to why you think this song took the number 1 place on YouTube and if you think it deserves it.

2009 called. They want the phrase "x year called, they want their y back" back.

In all seriousness, gangnam style discussion isn't really relevant any more. At least, not until I have kids and they see this video and say "Dad, your generation of music sucked" and I say "yeah, but we never had government mind control chips implanted in our heads".

That is the way it shall be, and until then I have no interest in gangnam style.

Interesting stuff. Im aware that its an old song but it is still very relevant, depending on which perspective your looking at it from.

It is STILL number 1 on YouTube. Pop songs are definitely fast paced and become irrelevant quickly in terms of popularity but im wondering why nothing has overtaken it yet, and what is going to. I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on how it got there in the first place but because of this fast paced 'pop' culture, it seems that people don't want to discuss it because of its 'irrelevance'.

Have you seen Asian music videos? Psy is downright normal.

It's just over two years old. That's not "old". And I fail to see how it's still relevant. Sure, it got a lot of views on YouTube after it came out, but people have stopped caring about it (alright, maybe some still do), and it didn't have any major influence on... well, anything of importance, I reckon.
